How to mine from nearby to the colony
Trying to just send my 2 best miners 2 tiles over to get some components, because I ran out before making the comms station and haven't seen a trader in ages. Apparently my faction can only have 1 base? How do I set up the caravan so they don't just idle on the hex I want them to enter and mine?

go into options, there is a slider to let you make more than 1 base.
then just settle and if you dont want the seconds base anymore you can take everything and destroy it

Just use mod Set up Camp

I believe the long range scanner will create areas your colony can caravan to. But that’s fairly late game.

thanks all!

Just a heads-up: the Long-Range Mineral Scanner is particularly great for getting Components. A single lump of Compacted Machinery has up to 110 components, and they can be carried back home by a single Muffalo. The Long-Range Mineral Scanner is not playing around!

No, it 100% does NOT mess around. Having just recently learned how to reach end game and all the subtleties that go into being successful in Rimworld (at least in Vanilla), I immediately became resource starved on a map that seemed pretty bad for minerals in my recent playthru which I had never lasted long enough to achieve in the past.

Then I built a long range mineral scanner and most of my mineral concerns were solved.

Deep miner isnt bad either. SO WHY NOT BOTH?! WHATS YOUR PROBLEM.

Sorry, I'm diabetic and experiencing low glucose. So I'm drunk. I'm just kidding. I'm just an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. :angry_creep:

Yes, deep mining on your same map should be feasible for long-term mining. However, have to get those components and steel first, to get up to the levels where mining will be sustainable.

Given its position in the tech tree id presume deep mining just ends up being done towards late mid game at best anyways, once youve done harvested all yer local ores and such. Should have components on lock down by that time one would presume.
