Where are the traders?
Got Royalty, playing with minimal mods (prep carefully, no extra content). Despite having had a comms console and orbital trading beacon for over an in-game year now, I have had ZERO traders. Nobody has flown by, nobody has stopped by...nothing. The only way I can trade is to take my caravan to the nearest settlement, two days in the summer.

Did I do something wrong? Did Royalty? I remember there being a fair amount of traders, even early game. All I have now is the biyearly royal traders and wanderers who just pass through, offering nothing.

Well, point the way the bug discussion section?

The odds of getting no caravan in a day is .961, while odds of no orbital is .89 by your stated numbers per day. So on a daily check, the odds are to the power of n intervals, then multiply the two odds to get probability for neither. Subtracting that from one gives the chance of at least one.

Caravan: .961^60=.0919 or a 9.19 chance of no caravan.
Orbital: .89^60=.000919 so the .0919 change.

However neither is a 0.0000844/.00844% chance for one person. Ergo if every player was playing a no mod, 8/100000th person would have a year no trader meaning maybe one person of all the active players are experiencing a yearlong no trader if every person is playing no mods randy rough.

So then the odds of four people getting is not able to be calculated because we dont know out of what sample period, however those active in the discussions represents a small sample size of overall active players.

So odds on par with a lottery, or odds on that people playing all the same game mode have noticed something similar and as such much more likely a bug with all the new dlc stuff that also includes changes and additions to traders?

Point is, you came in all hate saying it was a complaint about the game mode when it potentially is a bug because for one person, it is already extremely low odds of nothing in a year. But multiple people plus multiple years is essentially a statistical impossibility

I think is a bug somewhere too. I have seen these comments a few times.

On randy random, I got one trader in first year, and no traders since, several years on.

No Mods.

Traders are chosen by storytellers, just like all events. Personally I like to set in the scenario editor that normal traders arrive every 15 days and orbitals every 10 days.

Yes, but some of us have played this game since very early alpha so when we say no traders, it is because it is abnormally so.

While I guess I never thought about that, Randy has, in the past, been, if not generous, at least, like, occasional for me. I have not had a single, dedicated trader this entire game. This seems strange.

agreed, literally hardly any traders or raiders. had about 3 crashlanded people, 2 dead instantly. so my settlement is growing very slow

Strange indeed. I assume the OP isnt hostile with everyone om the planet?

In mine, I have two people who are allied level and three neutrals.

Correct. I'm neutral with two (one is near friendly) and only hostile towards the base hostile tribe. I keep getting cargo pods, but nobody to unload this stuff off to! I'm gonna have to make a trip soon here before winter hits. but yeah, no dedicated traders have visited me and my very acecssable base!
Hykal Mar 7, 2020 @ 6:35am
Guess you need to visit their bases instead!

I'm surprised we have yet to have a moodlet like "Went on a journey away from base +5".
Markus Reese Mar 7, 2020 @ 6:45am
Ha ha, that journey is what I have been doing, but still, always having to go out on 6+ day convoy runs to places with no variety gets... eh. Something flagging with being on royals good side I ponder if is the cause.

The way it is now, you gotta build up relationships into the positive at least before traders start visiting.

I hope you're right! I'm building drop pods soon to send some gifts out. Hopefully that speeds things up.

Phobe and Cassandra routinely spawn traders. With Randy, it's pure RNG, so you can go years without a trader visiting you.

I played on Randy for three years in my sea ice colony, and only had ONE orbital trader visit. Once I switched to Cassandra, I was getting an orbital trader 2-3 times a year.

It will not. As long as you have a single faction in the positives then you get caravans at the max rate. As Hykal mentioned trade caravans are an event much like a raid or supply drop, the frequency is controlled by the storyteller, when the storyteller decides you are getting a caravan it looks at all possible factions and picks one at random. If you have 1 neutral or better faction you always get caravans from that faction, if you have 4 neutral or better factions you have a 25% chance from each, the overall frequency of caravans does not change.

Every single person making these thread is playing Randy, it's absolutely normal for Randy to never send traders, because RNG. It has been like this for years, with dozens of threads like this popping up over time, there's more threads now because there are more people playing RimWorld than ever before.
