Ok so steel walls are flammable
I pretty much lost a colony due to a zzzt because the only building I decided to build out of steel instead of stone caught on fire, which also held my entire food supply. I only had two firefighters on hand atm which is usually enough to stop that sort of fire, but one mentally broke whilest fighting fires and went on an insulting spree. This caused a social fight with my other firefighter (and they fought right in range of the fire, mind you, causing some serious burns), causing the fire to spread inside the building while the pawns duked it out and injured each other

I mean, it was funny, but part of me feels like this was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. For the terrible luck and the fact that I assumed steel wasn't flammable, which it really should not be like stone.

EDIT: THERE WERE ONLY TWO CAPABLE FIREFIGHTERS IN THE COLONY.

A few things I suggest, or to note:

More firefighters - my whole colony is set to priority 1.
Steel is flammable, but at a lower rate.
Less batteries means less destruction during a zzzztt event. Much easier to manage.
If fire breaks out and isnt being instantly tackled, draft everyone to end their task and get them to head to the fire.
Fires indoors can be more dangerous due to rising temps.

It's the impurities in the steel that are flammable, remember you're digging up ancient buildings and whatnot from ages past.

Man that guy is going to come link to the exploding lithium and burning steel wool again to prove you wrong neither of which are good examples but whatever .

Also steel just has a chance to catch on fire it wont always burn in game its like 30 % chance .

Also people really dont set every colonist to fight fires ? is there any more critical function that can be occuring other than fighting fires ( drafted fighting does not count as it overrules all of that anyhow )

Set more people to fight fires , dont build critical features out of anything less than stone . These are like rimworld laws of conduct .

I'm not going to lie and say I could have handled something better, because there is always room for that regardless of the situation, but I feel like I shouldn't be entirely blamed for assuming a steel wall shouldn't be flammable period and should not cause the fire to spread inside at the very least. I had everyone I could set to priority one. But it was still early in the game and I only had 4 colonists, one was incapable of firefighting and the other couldn't walk.

I ONLY had two people currently capable of fighting fires, guess this was not clear in the OP.

LOL, we all find that out a first time.

And, you didn't build any Firefoam Poppers in the most critical areas in your base... right? :)

PS: Rimworld can melt steel beams.

Well no, it was early in the game and I did not rush its research

Look the real thing to learn from this is dont put batteries in a room that has anything flammable in it .

You can either mine out a small room in a mountain or build a small room from stone . For batteries. Zzzzzt always happens , it cant be avoided , it has to be built around .

The random Zzzt event happens on a conduit, not the batteries.

Its the batteries that cause the biggest issues though if they are contained it shouldnt be an issue .

If you built everything out of wood i guess maybe so but if the Zzzzzt hits a spot other than where the batteries are ( rare in my experience ) then it should be a non issue.

The batteries only effect the explosion size, not the location.
The explosion could litterally happen on the oppisite side of the base to the batteries.

Install fire sprinkler system, be careful which mod though cause one of them sprays fire instead of water everywhere.
