AS for complexity, that's a tough one. There is a lot of subtle complexity here, especially if you play with mods.
IMO, most grand strategy games or even a lot of 4X games are pretty easy once you "figure out the way". Some do a good job of randomising things to prevent that. RimWorld is like that in my opinion in that each game can vary quite a bit from the last, so you will struggle for a while to "find the way".
I'd say that the depth is on par with 4X games and better than most grand strategy games. (personally I consider most grand strategy games to be less complex than most 4X games - YMMV).
But you'll get so much replayability that every single campaign will ve completely different.
And it is somewhat micromanagy too.
And im just talking about the base game never mind the thousands of mods to enrich your experience.
