Colonist won't do recreation
No mods, Royalty expansion

Is consistently starved for rec.

Have hoop & go boards

Colonist has full 100% recreation schedule
Removed all work priorities. (Just idles around)

Reloaded twice

Tried locking him in a room with a campfire, go board & hoop. Just idles while having negative buff 0% rec

He is psychotic if it makes a difference.

No idea what to do.

EDIT: I've built all available types (3) colony is 18k wealth

I don't have the DLC yet, but the classic answer for this is that you don't have any Recreation Types that the colonists currently wants to engage with. The solution is to make sure they have a good variety of Recreation items and opportunities. So, locking them in a room with recreation items they don't want denies them the opportunity to use Stargazing/Cloudwatching/Going for a walk types of recreation. There's only so many games of horseshoes a colonist can stomach.

There is a reported bug like this that we're looking into, thanks for adding info to it!

I have this exact same problem, person has the Psychopath perk and wont do recreation. Workaround I found is to meditate.

Has this been fixed? I'm having this problem in my colony right now. 2 colonists refuse to do recreation with a full recreation schedule and all work tasks removed.

I don't think there was ever a bug. The OP said his pawn was psychotic, which is a mental break state where they just wander around doing nothing and ignoring their needs until they collapse or the mental state ends. The vast majority of time when people claim there is an issue it's because they don't have enough recreation sources to counter the diminishing returns based on colony wealth. It's reported as "bugged" often enough that the devs have probably "looked into it" many times, but I don't recall any cases where it was actually bugged (vanilla).

There can be issues with modded recreation objects that will break recreation on your map though.

Psychotic mental breaks (not to be confused with psycopath trait) would mean that the colonist will not be eating or recreation or anything. The psycopath trait does not interfere with seeking recreational activities. Also only one or two things to do will result in colonists eventually wanting more and not using the current few activities. I set up a tube television with seating, a few chess boards, a pool table and poker table and everyone seems entertained.

That sounds completely normal, that amount of recreation usually isn't good enough past the very early game. Hoop Toss and Billiards are both dexterity, they both contribute to the same diminishing returns. Usually by the time you are building billiards tables your colony is in need of the next form of recreation, like a TV or telescope, chocolate and drugs also work.

I just had this bug. Colonist wouldn't do any recreation despite having only sleep and recreation in schedule, and unrestricted area. I arrested him, then released him, and it seems to have fixed it.

Just had this bug, arrest and release fixes it. No idea what causes it, only one colonist was affected by it. Tried everything, restricting her to the rec room, her own room, cancelling all of her work, setting her schedule to 100% recreation, she just wanders.

One thing I didn't try is sending her on a caravan, that might work. If it happens again, I will try this and update this post with whether or not it works. It would be a better solution than arrest and release since arresting gives an 8 day mood debuff.

UPDATE: I got the bug again, sending the colonist on a 1-tile caravan and back home fixes the bug.

@Astasia, the reply below this post: It's a bug, deal with it. I have every type of recreation that is possible to do and they inexplicably won't do it. There is no point in arguing about this.

There is almost certainly no bug. Your colonists are very likely bored of the types of recreation you have in your base, this is even more common with Ideology now since ideology roles increase expectations which mean those specific colonists need more recreation while your other colonists might be fine. Arresting and releasing them likely solves it temporarily because prisoners have no recreation bar and it probably resets their boredom on release, if you don't change anything then they will eventually become bored again and stop recreating for a while.

If you think you have a bug with recreation then post a screen shot while hovering over their recreation need. If we start seeing people posting colonists with 0% recreation and no boredom then maybe that is something that can be looked into.

Somethings definitely "up" with recreation since the update, my colony of 15 pawns NEVER had a break due to lack of recreation before the last update, they now do CONSTANTLY. However they are "bored" of the only 3 types of recreation they can do but i dont know if ive seen anyone "cloudwatching" or "going for a walk" etc. Not sure whats going on, if anything tbh. Only thing i can say for sure is im seeing waaaay more issues with recreation since the patch.
Skullywag Dec 5, 2021 @ 1:44pm
Ok so looked a little further of the 26 pawns i currently have (im housing 11 visitors) none of them have done ANY social interaction recreation which is listed as a possible source. Could this be the issue?
