Is it possible to create a new colony on the same planet?
If I lose a colony or just want to start a new one, is it possible to do this on an existing planet so I don't have to generate a new one every time?

You could use the same seed i guess

If you wait long enough someone will wander into your dead colony. You can also form a caravan and walk to another tile and form a colony there. Just make sure in your settings you set it so you can have more than 1 settlement at a time

There's a mod (I think? It might be a vanilla feature now) that allows you to send a caravan out to establish a new colony, but as far as I know, no method to start a brand new game on an existing planet without regenerating it. As others have said, you can use the same world seed and generation settings to get the same planet again, but you'll still have to wait for it to build.

Yes. If you go into the game options you can increase the colony slider and have multiple colonies on the same planet at the same time. Or you can abandon your current colony and start a new one somewhere else. As Gum Gum mentioned there is no "Game Over" in RimWorld (unless you use the exploding planet scenario), if all your colonists die you can just wait for new ones to show up, then either continue playing that colony or pack up and make a new one somewhere else for a fresh start.

As far as i know you can make one of you pawns go out into the world by forming a caravan and move him away from your original starting spot (around 8 tiles i think is the minimum) and make him start a new colony. He will be alone there untill you either send your others colonists to him or they all die. After that the new pawns that would normally come to your original base would start to apear at his new settlement. Thats what happened to me some time ago i dont know if it got changed.

If you use an identical world Seed during generation, with the sliders at the same levels, would that (re)create an identical world for you?

False info.

Identical seeds will always have the same terrain and biome distributions. Individual map tiles will have the same features - steam geysers, ruins, minerals etc. It's *possible* for faction bases and road locations to vary slightly between different uses of the same seed. But I only saw that once, when using the same seed and tile something like eight times in a row in quick succession.

I agree that choosing "keep playing" when everyone dies and waiting till you get a "Refugee chased" or "Wanderer Joins" is a great way to go. If the base is fairly built up though, migrating to a new tile and abandoning the original base might be easier. Raids will scale to the wealth level of the base, which at that point one pawn alone may not be able to defend.
