i had one colony where i had about 5 of them, and they worked very nicely to supply my colony with chemfuel.
The Infinite Chemfuel Reactor is under Buildings-Special in the stockpile settings.
^-- This is the fastest method to find it without mods.
Check map edges, too. Some poor Pawn may have been carrying it and just dumped it when they entered the map. (Shouldn't, though. But... /shrug)
Check your History/Event log. I don't know if you get a Completed message in there, but you should IMO. And, if it completed, then you got the "Reward."
I didn't see it assembled out in the field anywhere, I'd imagine that'd stick out pretty badly, but I'll keep my eyes open for that. I got the rest of the rewards. I know I got the reactor, because I traded with the ally after fulfilling the request, to sell them a bunch of garbage I brought with. I specifically looked at the chemfuel reactor to see how much it was worth, but didn't sell it. I'm wondering if they somehow lost it. I can check my muffalo, I already checked my pawn's inventories.
It depends on the terrain. An "uninstalled" building/installable object gets a weird "wooden base" thingie overlay on it that tends to blend in with things, I've found. I don't know if the Chemfuel Generator gets that, though, as some objects don't seem to. Basically - Don't expect the standard looking Chemfuel generator graphic. (I "think." I don't know that all of those items get that same graphic overlay. Check your inventory for an uninstalled chair or something and you'll see what I'm talking about - Not really easy to spot sometimes.)
In any case, setting a single square storage zone, making it critical priority, and then only allowing an Infinite Chemfuel Genertor to be stored will work if you have one on the map and don't allow it in any other similarly prioritized storage zones.
