I'm in the same position at the moment (though just with one of many colonists, not a critical one.)
Once she's accepted the "deal with Lucifer", make sure she only takes the drug when needed to stave off withdrawal; her supply will last longer that way. If she DOES run out, one way to save her life is a cryosleep casket until you find a new supply of Luciferium. (Cryptosleep units can be researched eventually, but until then, you can often find them by opening "ancient danger" sites.)
If you DO ever find cryptosleep caskets in Ancient Danger sites, make sure not to accidentally dismantle them along with the walls and floor. They are literal lifesavers.
A safer option, as others have mentioned, is healer mech serum. Her brain will recover instantly, with no bad side effects. Make sure that she doesn't have any OTHER life-threatening injuries or illnesses at the time, though; the serum will only heal one condition, and the game decides which is the "worst" thing she's suffering from.
Of course, Luciferium is way easier to find than healer mech serum...
