New to Rimworld? BEGINNERS GUIDE!
Hey all,

So I wanted my friends to start playing Rimworld, so I made a tutorial series for them and thought I would share it with you guys as well. It's great to send to people who are thinking about buying the game but don't know how to play without spoiling all the fun. :)
You can start them at part 2 to start with only gameplay. Part 1 just shows how to set up a game.

Part 1: Setting up your first game
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zb1uenn6bLQ
Part 2: Stockpiles and Bedrooms
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTQMZNRPxts

Part 3: Colonist Info & Electricity
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tCyR8v0zao

Part 4: Kitchen, Butchering and Food Production
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUL2eCsM_js

Hope it helps :)

It's a bad idea to put the butchering table into the same room as your stove, as the butchering "produces" which reduces the sterile level which in turn increases chances for food poisoning. Didn't check the other videos, hope your friends pick the game up ;)

OP's profile is private? Oh dear... and there I was hoping to find this 'guide' in the Workshop, but it's just a plug for another YouTube series.
It's a good idea and well meant, but if you want new players to take advantage of a guide then post it as a Guide! Then new players would be able to find it. It would of course have to offer something that the other 102 Gameplay Basics guides do not, in order to stand out though ;)

While this is true, its not a huge issue if you keep the room clean, have a good cook, and put sterile tiles in the room. It really boils down to if you want efficiency or safety. I butcher animals and put the meat in fridges right next to the table - though I always have some dedicated cleaners.

This means that in addition to having someone butcher/haul new meat, you will also have to have a dedicated cleaner there. While it is more efficient for the cook(s), it really isn't for the worforce as a whole, not if you want to have safe food production. And yes, sterile tiles are a must have. Even without butchering goats right next to your cooking pots :P

I usually keep my kitchen and butcher shed on opposite ends of my freezer. And the only way to access them is through the freezer.

Then I divide my freezer up into 4 different stockpiles. The section closest to the butcher shed is the drop zone for animal corpses (the smallest zone). One zone over is where I store finished meals (the largest zone). And then next to that are 2 zones I designate to hold raw food (one meat only and one vegetables only) which is always right outside of the kitchen.

I like to also connect my main dining room/recreation room to my freezer which connects directly to where I have the meals zoned to be. There's often some art in my dining room too so that I can give my colonists a double mood buff from impressive dining room and impressive recreation room without using as many resources.

My hospital/research station/drug lab adjoins to either my dining area or my freezer itself. Sometimes I store herbal meds in the freezer but not very often. The meds typically get placed in the center of the room on shelves. But 3 small seperate stockpiles of herbal medicine, neutroamine, and cloth gets places right by the drug bench and this specific bench only makes medicine.

I found this to be a good mix between cleanliness and efficiency.

I'm honestly just trying to teach people the mechanics and how the gameplay works. I am not teaching people how to be most efficient, or strategies. I want people to figure out for themselves things like where to place butchering table, etc, since that's the fun of the game :)
