Similarly, I am getting sick of tribal play and no way to get rid of weapons... would like to burn them like apparel.
Also, gift to factions/traders when you get the chance.

It doesn't take that long as tribal to get smelting. Until then I just make a large outdoor stockpile and dump all the trash in there to deteriorate on it's own.
My plays currently cap tech at Medieval, so no smelting ever. But yeah, melt in the rain is a solution of last resort.
Doesn't medieval times have it's own smelting?

Lavish meals should make a decent drop in your food stocks.
The other thing you can do is to gift those items to different factions for positive rep gains.
And finally, if you are overflowing in food and silver, then just sell extras to the merchants (confirm yes when it asks you if you still want to sell that much to a merchant who can't cover the costs). You won't care if you don't get silver for it, because you are reducing stock and you don't need silver, and you don't need to trade it for something else that just keeps your wealth at the same levels except not in terms of having excess food.
