Item stash quest without items?

An item stash quest notification showed up, after 17 days it would disappear.
In a couple days I sent 2 pawns there and after a 3 days travel, finally got to the place and... nothing.
The map was mainly rocks, a couple of camels, 2 or 3 cactus and nothing else. No items, no outpost, not even an embush... zero.

Has this happened to anyone else? Anyone has an explanation or a reason that I might be missing?

I've honestly never done one of those. Are you sure it was the correct mapmarker? As I tend to ignore them I notice when I check world map for other issues I'll see a few of them as they'd built up over the year. (I only get stuck rescuing incapacitated refugees etc cause sometimes they're relatives and I don't want certain pawns getting whiny that I left their brother's godmother's neighbor to die in a field somewhere).

Pretty sure it's the right spot. I even got the notification of "caravan has arrived at the quest location".

I think that's the bandit hideout's wall, there to the left of the dromedaries.
Just kick in a few walls, one of those walls is not a cliff but a hideout

(like ancient dangers, you know?)

Never seen it happen but it might have genertated the stash inside the mountain or that mountain is actually dividing the map in half and you can't see the area hidden behind it.
I can't really tell from the screen shot but also check for what MK said. Might be a wall poking out somewhere.

Thanks a million. I had to mine some 10 squares of granite, but it finally opened up a huge area where the items could be found. :D
