Need Warm Clothes
Playing on an ice sheet where it is damn cold - sometimes -50C.

Indoors all bedrooms, rec room, dining room, workshops, corridors are 17C-21C.

One colonist is complaining about needing warm clothes. He is wearing muffalo tuque, t-shirt, parka and bearksin pants.

But when he goes outside - not very often as he is doctor, researcher, I draft him and order him to stand outisde for couple of minutes, the "Need Warm Clothes" message disappears. But when he is indoors he's complaining about warm clothes.

Is there any logic here? It fails me. If he was complaining about needing warm clothes outside I could understand, but he's not - only when he's indoors. He also doesn't complain about the clothes if I place him (drafted) in the food freezer (which is outside temparature) or if he walks in for a meal.

We have no more muffalo wool, so the best pants he's going to get is the bearskin.

No other, of the 5 colonists, complain even though they are wearing less warm clothing. He must have a lower temp threshold, but why is he complaining indoors and not when sent into the true cold?

Is this guy destined to be an organ donor? :)

If the pawn is not actually cold there should be no penelty as the *warning* you get is more of a game advice and not something that effect the pawn.

Could be a mod issue.

No need to kill the dude.

He isn't complaining, the game is just giving you a soft warning, on very cold maps it's hard to get rid of that warning so I tend to just ignore it. My guess is it wont give you a warning while a colonist is drafted because you often might tell a drafted colonist to equip some armor or something that would reduce temperature tolerance, and since you are in control of the colonist the game assumes you know what you are doing.

Quality of clothing has a major impact on how much insulation it provides, so a very low quality muffalo parka might add less cold insulation than a very high quality cloth one (I don't know the min and max temperatures of each material off hand). If you select a colonist and click their equipment tab it will show you near the top their temperature ranges. The game will give you a cold weather warning if it predicts the lowest temperature for the day will go below that temperature range, even if it's only by like half a degree for a few minutes in the middle of the night.

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah, its just a warning - you're right the guy isnt actually debuffed by it.

I looked much closer at his gear and tolerances to temperature. I made mistake in that he's wearing a bearskin parka and muffalo pants, not as I originally said. I made him trade his bearskin parka (quality 89%) for another parka (quality 92%) worn by a colonist with much lower threshold for temparature.

The warning went away :)

Although a little later a raid happened and it was devestatingly brutal killing 2 of my colonists who were wearing warm quality clothing. So now we have a much larger wardrobe of good clothing - but it's tainted now, of course.

I love Rimworld :)

=p

The 89% and 92% things are durability. Item health doesn't effect stats (anymore, it used to), but if it falls below 50% then colonists will suffer a mood loss. Quality is like when an item is listed as "awful" or "excellent."
