Is missing one eye a big deal?
On colonists it drops sight to 75 percent, is that a big hit to gun accuracy?

On animals, does it matter much?

Eyes are just for variety, not really needed in Rimworld.... I usually remove and sell all of mine....

Loss of an eye is a pretty signficant hit to pretty much every stat in the game. It only really matters for animals if they try to fight anything though.

Will... yes... but it doesn't make something worthless I have an animal with messing a leg and paw and a heart condition take on several raiders and survive several raids.

Wouldn't that makes you unable to hit anything with a gun?

It makes them a bit worse at pretty much everything. It doesn't make them useless, but it's definitely worth replacing with a bionic/arcotech eye. Plus then they make great snipers once they have enhanced vision.

Had one fella get an eye shot out, then shot in the leg, then his other eye shot out. 2 raids later I got a 'suitably wounded' captive, and harvested both eyes (and misc parts). One eye went in no trouble, but the other just got him an extra stab and cut wound to the head. Since then, we've had to improvise.

One eye gone is 75% sight.
Sight is used in: (https://rimworldwiki.com/wiki/Sight)
Shooting Accuracy 12 Base chance to not miss per square of shot distance.
Healing Speed 0.8 Speed at which the character heals wounds as a doctor.
Melee Dodge Chance 0.7 Chance to dodge a melee attack that would've otherwise hit. Characters will not dodge while aiming or firing a ranged weapon.
Medical Operation Speed 0.7 Speed at which the character performs medical operations.
Smithing Speed 0.6 Speed at which this person smiths or crafts weapons, machines, ammunition, and tools.
Tailoring Speed 0.6 Speed at which this person makes clothes.
Mining Yield 0.5 A percentage yield a miner will achieve
Plant Work Speed 0.5 Speed at which this person sows and harvests plants.
Construction Speed 0.5 Speed at which this person constructs and repairs buildings.
Research Speed 0.5 This person does research at this speed.
Mining Speed 0.5 A multiplier on the speed at which this person mines rock.
Melee Hit Chance 0.4 Base chance to hit a target in melee.
Butchery Efficiency 0.4 Multiplier on the amount of meat produced when butchering flesh animals.
Mechanoid Disassembly Efficiency 0.4 Multiplier on the amount of materials yielded when this person disassembles a dead mechanoid.
Mechanoid Disassembly Speed 0.4 Speed at which this person can disassemble a mechanoid.

Surgery Success Chance 0.4 The likelihood that a colonist will succeed when attempting to perform a surgery. Failures can result in simple wasted time and medicine, or catastrophic damage to the patient.
Smelting Speed 0.3 Speed at which this person smelts things.
Stonecutting Speed 0.3 Speed at which this person cuts rough stone into blocks.
Cooking Speed 0.3 Speed at which this person cooks meals.
Brewing Speed 0.3 Speed at which this person brews beer.
Smoothing Speed 0.3 A multiplier on the speed at which this person smooths floors.

So yes, one eye gone means you suck 25% at... basically everything.

On the other hand, having two archotech eyes, turns you into a Superman.

Unless I'm mistaken, there's also a significant chunk of stats for which the maximum efficiency achieved by sight is 100%, so improving your sight beyond that of a normal human with bionic parts is going to be less efficient than hoped. You're still gonna be a hell of a shooter though.

Ya sadly sight was nerfed super hard in like A16 or so, the only things not capped at 100% sight are accuracy, dodge and medical tend speed/quality. Medical tend is capped at 130 and 140% sight, dodge is 140%, melee accuracy 150%, and shooting accuracy at 200% sight.
