No option to put out fire.
An enemy started a fire on my base. Of my 2 colonists who were healthy, neither had the option to put the fire out. Wtf...

It's bad enough there's no sandstone in this forest. Why sandstone? Cause for some reason I cannot build walls out of granite or limestone or slate so I'm stuck with wood walls.

I don't care about whether or not the fire was started in any part of the base.... just tell me if it was within the home zone ;)
Please provide a screenshot with the home zone overlay on.

I agree with Grapple - it MOST LIKELY is not in the home zone; pawns will only beat out fires within the home area.

If this is not the case, you may have something more serious going on.

Click on walls, wait, select the material to build them out of. It only shows materials available on the map. You most certainly can build walls out of any of the stone materials.

Pyromaniacs and certain colonist backstories can't put fires out, be aware of that when starting your game. You can manually put fires out by drafting a colonist and standing them next to a fire, but as the two posters above mentioned they wont otherwise put fires out unless it's in the homezone.

Just realized how to select the wall type from the drop down list under the walls icon so I think I'll be ok now.

As far as that eariler fire. I dunno why it wouldn't work. It was my first game ever so probably something obvious I didn't see.

Could be a few things.

Most importantly, home zones. Zones tool > blue house symboles. This shows you the home area and allows you to add or remove. Pawns will only ever pat out fires in what you designate as home area. Very important fact that.

Traits. Not all pawns can put out fires. Check their bios.

Drafting. Unless you put them right next to a fire, drafted pawns are not effective at extinguishing. I generally draft/undraft to get the firefighters going.

Job priority. If untouched firefighting is their N1 priority, but you can change that.

I will never take pyromainiac trait pawns no matter how good they are, simply because I have been left with them being the only ones left capable of walking for a myriad of reasons and unable to put out a fire and just helpessly watch it burn though areas and by the time other pawns are back online the air in the burning areas it "Superheated"

Couple tips:
  • 3 tile gap between buildings - helps with "zrrt" event for running cables down the mid tile
  • Firefoam poppers save lives and stockpiles!

This game is goana kick you in the balls time and time again, try to take it to on the chin and if you "salt" post(I'm pretty bad ant this xD)after a particularly bad game make it clear that you are new to game, that way you are more likely to get positive feedback and advice over the "HOW DID YOU NOT DO THIS INSTEAD OF THIS!!! repies.

Item the first: Putting out fires.
Please make sure these things were in place:
1) The fire must be in your designated HOME ZONE
2) You must have a colonist that is physically and mentally able, that has the firefighting task enabled, and that IS NOT DRAFTED in military mode. Note that "mentally able" means conscious, awake, sane, not fleeing or cowering, not falling over with exhaustion, not starving hungry.
3) If the colonist is not otherwise occupied, AND firefighting is a higher priority than any other task he is busy with, AND his current task is complete (researching, for example, is never) then he will run over to the nearest fire and start beating it out. If he IS busy with a task, or he has available tasks with a higher priority, you can override this by selecting the colonist, right-clicking the fire and prioritising firefighting. This may result in the colonist killing that *one* flame, then wandering off again
4) Pyromaniacs should not be assigned to fight fires. Really, pyromaniacs should not be in our base. Not even as visitors. Not even 2 squares off on the map. Pyromaniacs are evil.

Item the second. Building walls out of granite or limestone(also slate, sandstone, marble, steel, uranium, plasteel, etc.)
You CANNOT build walls out of granite, limestone, or ANY stone chunk.
You CAN build walls out of granite or limestone *blocks*, which first need to be crafted from the stone chunks at the stonecutter's table.
Of the rocks, Sandstone is the weakest but fastest, marble is pretty, and granite is hardest.
And yes, rocks don't burn. Well, not much.
