My family had a dog that loved eating ♥♥♥♥.. And then vommitting all over the floor. I was young at the time, so that's basically all i remember of that dog.
I've heard quite alot of stories from other dog owners who have a garden where they grow potatoes. One in particular, had alot of problems with one of her dogs digging in the garden, eating raw potatoes and becoming drunk.
Not sure if raw potatoes are distilled in the bellies of humans, but they do in dogs :P
My neighbor takes her dogs out twice a day to go run and play in a nice big field nearby. They gorge themselves on deer poop whenever possible. (There's a natural reason for that, but...)
Dogs are typically the biggest offenders in Rimworld because they cause no filth and, thus, the player is enthusiastic about them being able to haul to any place in their base, even the cleanest areas. Those areas they can reach likely include "where the good smelly tasty stuff is" as far as an animal is concerned.
Most of my dogs end up getting into the booze before I remember to zone them away from it. I learned a long time ago to make a special storage area for the really dangerous drugs and to forbid it behind several doors in an out-of-the-way area so I'd notice anything approaching it.
I've heard of something similar. There's also the fact that many animals get "drunk" off of fermented fruits and the like. And, some plants have mild narcotic effects as well that animals will actually seek out.
Unfortunately, this is one of those things that most often occurs without warning in a new player's game. The only way to prevent this is to take preemptive measures, which you wouldn't know to do until you actually experience it happening. (Unless you're particularly cautions and understand that everything, including animals to a certain extent, has its own "behavior." Animals don't exhibit many individual characteristics, but this is one of them that can develop during play - They can become little drug addicts. :))
The only way you could hope to prevent this is to make it difficult for the animals to reach the drugs/items. Use Zones to only allow them into areas you want them to be allowed into and be very cautious about storing any foodstuffs in there you don't want them consuming.
Note: They don't see any of the normal Healing/Medical items as "food." "Drugs," though are well-within their food chart. I don't believe they will consume a precursor like Neutroamine, either. Beer, Luciferium, Yayo, etc.. - All those are fair game and they will see those first as food, next as an addicted-to substance.
Haha, i actually didn't know that. I've never looked that close at the cleainliness-stat. I wonder how they determined that. Dogs are usually quite fond of rolling around in whatever smelly stuff they can find :D
I'd probably say cats are better. Damn those things can wash their fur 10 hours per day (certainly not overexageration). While dogs do it too, it's certainly not as much :P
Yeah, there are periods where the Elk starts wandering in people's yards to eat Apple.. Which makes them go crazy.
Another one that hasn't been mentioned.. Chocolate. Dogs love it. Sadly, it doesn't take very much of it to be potentially lethal. A friends dog actually ate a pretty big chunk of it once. By accident. I basically had to force my hand down its throat to remove what was still there and try to induce a puking session.
Onion (or is it garlic?) is also not good for dogs. Not sure about how happy they're about eating it though.. :P
In any case. why wouldn't animals like to get drunk/high? I mean, people love it. My ex was basically high every day. Costly and not very good for her, but she still did it.
Saying that, I usually only have "normal" type of hauling animals like dogs. I'd image a bear or elephant may need more food during the day and go after something else.
