Cleaning and home area....pawn is cleaning dirt way outside house...
Find cleaning a challenge, as it never seems to get done completely. So I watched my assigned pawn, discovered he is cleaning fields way outside house....seems that pawns will clean entire home zone, which includes fields, storage, even graveyards. Is it worth restricting home area to just bedrooms, kitchen, and inside space, so that it gets done? What area defines the "unsightly environment" penalty? I would think its just inside the house, who cares about some dirt in the fields way outside...

Any coments?

The sightly or unsightly environment will influence a pawn wherever they go, so if your fields are bloody and filled with rotting corpses for example, then your field workers will suffer.
Therefore, you need to ensure that all frequently used areas of work are kept clean and tidy, including the fields, storage and graveyards.
As noted above, adapt your home zone to what is actually used.

leave it as is. Or get a mod that seperates both cleaning and home areas.
No mod required.
In addition to the home zone, if you have enough pawns to have a few on cleaning duty, then you can allocate them to specific areas through the use of area restrictions per cleaner. That way the work can be split up and made easier to manage.

When you build or zone an area it gets marked as a "home" area even if it's on the other side of the map. Dezone/remove home areas that are not needed. If you build a wall around your place than dezone the area outside of the wall but leave it blue right on the wall.

They clean home areas, so the fewer areas zoned blue/home the less they have and the more likely they'll clean your base.

Early on I tend to keep the home zone strictly controlled to only a tile or two near my structures.
There's a toggle on the lower right of the screen that enables/disables home zone automatically expanding when you build a structure.

If the pawn is cleaning up outside just tell em to clean indoors once they run out of things to clean inside they tend to polish rocks outside for some reason. Just change their work priority to another task if you don't want them doing that.

Unless you've got piles of blood and corpses there's no real need to polish the stones outside unless there's nothing better to do.
but there's almost always something better to do. :P
