Why are chinchillas in rainforest biomes.
They're desert animals. They litterally die if they get too wet because their fur doesnt dry out easily.

Were they put in the rainforrest by mistake?
some weird balance or gameplay reason?

OR

are chinchillas in rimworld not real chinchillas, but something more insidious?

Well my first response would be i'm pretty sure you are thinking about it way to hard pretty sure tynan probably just didn't worry about it to much considering the game.

But on a serious note, Chinchilla illuminati confirmed!

Chinchillas are from the rainforest... they live in high altitude regions within South America... They don't live in sterotypical deserts....

I have always wondered if chinchilla fur was valuable enough to justify breeding them.

You will need a lot of chinchillas to give you enough fur to make a jacket. And from my recollection they don't sheer, you will have to slaughter them to get their fur. On the bright side they do make good attack animals! I make a steam colony over a year ago and started off with a Chinchilla named Murder. He spawned with an eye scar already so I knew he was gonna be tough. I just didn't anticipate him getting a double digit kill count. Never did find him a mate though... arid biome and none of the traders had any in stock.

It's more like scrub land than desert, but yeah it's definately not rainforest. I like how he seemed to assume that being in South America automatically meant rainforest.
