Boomalope Starvation
Will a boomalope that starves explode or leave behind a corpse?

It will. Its kind of awful.

The worst is when you still have a lot off wood structures and you get the "Boomalope self-tames!" message... Mouse hovering over the slaughter button... Sweating bullets...

Boomalopes and boomrats always explode when they die, no matter the circumstances.

I once had a merchant caravan coming to my base in the middle of a -30° winter... It had boomrats for selling... You can probably guess what happened...

Yeah, I didn't really pay attention to those critters, so they just went down and died fast to hypothermia, exploding and wounding their handlers. For whatever reason, the settlement which sent them hated me afterwards as it probably registered those explosions as attacks from me... lol

Boomalopes do NOT explode if you kill them by neck cut. This is especially good for people looking to hunt them because you can down them then use operations to cut the throat.

Thats a mod, can’t do that without them blowing up

Prioritize feeding your starved boomalopes. I learned that the hard way.
Or just let them out and then let them starve

I'm not sure if this'd help, but there'd a mod that allows boomalope and rats to be killed in such a way that they don't explode. It lists the ways it modifies in the description:

I just wanted to know for vanilla. I don't know why I'd raise boomarats anyways, you can't even milk them

They make good raiding companions.

I prefer pets that have use inside my own base. There are three exceptions to "must be use on MY map", mostly based on coolness in different ways. If romarats were cool because of boom, boomalopes are cooler for that (and you can milk the females... and the males )

Well, I personally favour boomrats for offensive play, as their smaller body size makes them hard to hit. Not to mention they're faster, and easier to feed.

Send 50 of those fellas to raid enemy base while playing Ride of the Valkyries. Raise a memorial after the victims.

And whoever they randomly bonded to falls into coma.

I don't like having random time bombs wandering around, waiting to add some chaos to my life. If the map gets too cluttered with them, I wait till it rains, then clear the map of them with my rifle team. Boom ain't no big thang in the rain!
