Can't reform caravan. Enemies in area.
So after the second Item Stash appeared on the map, I decided to see what this Caravan business was all about and sent out an expedition of one person. Still being new to the game, every Raid sent at me only ever had a 'Group' of one enemy, so I wasn't really too concerned with only sending one guy out in the Caravan. That, and the fact that I only have four people, I really didn't want to spare even one, but I had to learn what it was all about.

Well when he got to his destination, there was a whole camp of enemies! They were going in and out of buildings but I counted at least 9 of them, maybe more!

There's no way my one guy could make a dent in that group, so I decided to turn around and head back. The problem is that it's telling me I can't Reform my Caravan because there are still Enemies in the area.

What do I do? Is my guy lost for good? Right now he's sleeping in the top corner of the map. I'm considering having him build his own shelter and camping out for the next couple years until I can muster a group that can take all those enemies.

Is that a viable option, or is there a way for him to retreat back to my colony?

Edit: Well, when my colonist woke up and chopped his first tree, the entire enemy colony moved up and attacked him. Right now he's unconsious and bleeding out. RIP Raven.

What were my options there?

Your best option was to go back to the last save before you put the caravan into action. When you enter an item stash map, the only way to leave is after defeating the enemies. It's just like normal raid; once you down/kill roughly half, the rest flee.

But, can't you just move to the edge of the map?

I did that by accident with a pawn during combat and it moved them off the map, even though there were enemies, and set them up as their own caravan. I could have just made them go back home or re-enter the map. (Re-entering would have caused them to appear at random map edge, so I just reloaded.)

Thanks for the answers. I'll test out moving to the edge of the map next time I'm in that situation.

if you have the right skills, that single guy can take out the camp. chop some wood and set up a few traps and kite the enemies into them. or wait for some animals to go mad. or if youre really clever, steal a turret and turn it against them.

you can also send a second caravan to the location to join your lone man.
