Why is Rimworld so slow?
At the start of a new Rimworld it's so uninteresting. Its boring there is nothing special going on the start should be fun. Instead its slow and tedious. Since you only have 3 guys the game starts slow. And the map itself is always plane with just trees and some rocks scattered around. ISn't there some kind of mod that makes the start more interesting?

kind of the nature of the game. when there's more going on with fewer operators the game becomes unmanagable with more operators. This is not to say there's nothing to be done. It's one of the best times to plan things out and figure out what you wanna do.

EVERY game starts off slow. Except possibly Redout.

A game that's full throttle, right out the gate, at a "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" level is not going to do well with the fan base. Resulting in poor reviews and a LOT of refunds.

It's a basic axiom of video game development. The game gets HARDER as you go. Not easier. You put the slow and easy stuff at the START of the game.

IMO, the game doesn't start out "slow." It's a pretty hectic period and the player is going to be issuing a ton of commands/orders. On the player's end, it should be pretty hectic.

What does slow things down, though, is the fact that most colonist's skills are too low to have a significant impact on their progress at that point. It takes "forever" to build a wall with pawns who have crappy building skills. You may have to order five chairs built just to get one decent one to install. (IF you're brave enough to wait that long and devote the resources towards that one chair, that is. Don't. :))

Want your progress to go faster? Spend a ton of time min/maxxing your starting colonists. Of course, they'll all be doing triple-duty in the early-game compared to your mid-game setup when you have more pawns to play with.

A worthy note: You can't afford to have a serious issue in the early-game. If you do, you'll likely end up spending all your resources just dealing with that "One Thing" only to have your colony collapse or be overrun when the next mediocre-difficulty event hits. One injured colonist that has to rest in bed can end up being the reason the colony is wiped in the next thirty minutes.

If you want really hectic, try out an Ice-Sheet start. It's extremely challenging and you'll be on the edge of your seat for a very long time.

Starts out slow? That is odd...I have the exact opposite experience.
The start is always a clickfest of planning and survival. A small oversight in the beginning can be a serious setback of tragedy and death, fast or slow.

Boolshit. Only if you pick that one specific scenario

Please stop blaming the game, and start blaming the person that makes these specific starting selections.... YOU

I don't think the game could start any other way and still be the same game. But I noticed a mod the other day that'll increase the amount of raids you'll get, if that'd spice it up for you some.

In which of these two statements were you LYING?

It's got to be one of them, as they are completely inconsistent with each other.

If his game is BROKEN, then possibly neither. A mod could be messing up the terrain generator.

Always jumping to the accusations, bro. Ya know, the Empire has use for you......... >:)

Actually in my opinion it's the complete opposite. At the start you usually have too many things to do while not having many pawns to do them all at once. This results in pawns being busy during their whole working day and requires more micromanagment than later. In late game I have many pawns just idling and few researches doing research, because there's nothing to do for them. Sometimes some dirt appears, pawn cleans it and is back to idling again. That's why I added forced raids to my scenario every 5 days to keep the game more interesting.

Build up a massive drug empire and mass mine jade around the world making statues, make your wealth in the hundred thousands, and try some of those raids again.

Even more boredom because randy has a tendency to not put a single raid on you throughout a whole year, and will just summon a rain of drop pods with resources on you. Every colony on randy random caused me to switch back to cassandra after 2 years of boring events.

No thanks I'm not a masochist. I want to enjoy a game, and enjoyment is subjective. For me enjoyment =/= breaking everything I spent hours on. I don't mind a challenge but what you said is basically a suicide that would be really hard to defend against if you don't use cheesy tactics like a kill box (which eliminated the danger of a raid if done properly and makes the game even more boring in turn)

By the way, wealth in hundred thousands is pretty much nothing compared to having few million of wealth. Wealth actually accumulates itself pretty easily without any drugs and jade statues.
