Curious to see how y'all build your freezers at the start of the game
I build the kitchen near my freezer (same as all of you) and I put my heat side OUTSIDE but I find difficultys in doing this for 2 reasons

1 when a raid happens they are usually the first to go so how do you defend against that?

2. I like to build inside mountains and sometimes I really can't get access (due to my garbage layout) to the outside so would to be feesible to just build a little say 4x4 room for the heat to go into or what that make the cooler less efficent?

:steamhappy:

I usually do a 3x5 room for the kitchen/butcher room. And a 11x11 cooler off of it. With the coolers going out into a walled garden for rice. I usually just build it of wood at first to get it up and running while I craft a good base long term.

OoOoo, I like the garden idea the thought never crossed my mind lol thanks for the tip ^^
how the ♥♥♥♥ do you build a freezer without solar panels?

With the new changes to food sickness, having your butcher in the same room as your stove / cooking is a *really* bad idea early on.

I have vanometric cells powering my 5 freezers (6x11)... a bit of a end-game overkill tho :steamhappy:

(And about a mountain layout.. the easiest way to link out the hot airflow if you don't need it; is to simply place a corridor to a opening... you know where deep in the mountain you get the unwanted "thin" roofs that you can remove)

I put my kitchen next to the freezer.

I then put my garden next to both and fence around it

I then put the AC on the side where the fence is. They rarely get attacked because they are fenced it

Solar panels + battery is less then 1k research points. Put someone on research and you have it by the time you have the mats to build freezer + batterys + solar panel.

I put my coolers in the center of the freezer with a 2x2 unroofed chimney.

So for a rough idea:

Build a big freezer. In the middle section off a 4x4 space. Designate the middle (2x2) of this section as no roof/remove roof. At each corner of the section place a wall. Now, depending on how much cooling you need, you can have anywhere from 1 (why did you even bother) to 8 coolers placed between the 4 posts. Whatever you don't use as a cooler tile, build a wall. Now the entire outside of your freezer can simply be walls except the doors to you use to access it.

Honestly? I don't build freezers early on. Until at least a year has passed, I just don't bother with them. I focus on building the rest of my base up first - namely, getting my initial walls + traps setup, and then getting enough materials to build my bigger base with its walls and rooms. The freezer only comes in at the end there. It's not really necessary for most of the early game.

I always find a mountain and dig in there put my kitchen right net to it normaly like a long thin room about 4 by 7 and then dig my freezer out y clearing at least a 11 by 20 room maybe more maybe less but around that. Then I dig a small to medium thin room next to it close to the entrance put a vent and door seprating my freezer and the small room and toss all the dead bodys in the smaller room. I normaly use two coolers and since I play on cold maps I use the heat to warm up my base in winter. By the time they dug out the room I have solar power and batterys or I just use wind in fact I am moving more towards that because I won't even need batterys using wind power and it can power two coolers pretty easyly on a cold map. This tends to by my freezer set up for the whole game. I also use a mod that lets me use fridges so I put them where people and tables tend to be. I also have a cleaner who cleans my kitchen area so I just keep eveything in that room butchering table and cooking stove drug lab and furmenting barrels stuff like that. I do most of this at the vary start and build my base around this set up.

use any other power source? wind generators seem to actually be more effective than solar generators, at least on my map this time.

At the start of the game, I'll use a butchery spot and a campfire. Then I'll build this...

I was building a "vault" base in a perm winter map
and since I only want one exit and one exit only, I build my freezer way inside of the mountain.
despite being 30 tiles deep into the mountain the freezer room only has a natural 3-5c temperature due to surrounding warm rooms, I'd like to keep them freeze on all time so I have a freezer working on minimum power while the exhaust is use to warm up the walk way.
