Don't think an animal as small as a fox will attack any animals much, if any, larger than itself.
Personally I often have a separate freezer section just for corpses that aren't processed yet, which I let animals into. I don't know exactly how helpful it is since it's hard to measure, but the idea is that they can eat in there without leaving 'filth' around the food colonists eat.
Alternatively if you farm a lot, I think they can eat simple meals, even if those are technically vegetarian in content.
