Advanced components
Hey guys,

i'm new to the game, so please excuse if that question might have already been answered:

I was hitting a wall in the game when i tried to build a fabrication bench.
I had all ressources, except the advanced components, which seems weird, as i can only start to produce them with said fabrication table as far as i know.

Is there any other way to get these? I've never seen them with any trader (nor the normal components for that matter).

Thing is right now: I also can't seem to find any more component ores on the map, which means, if anything is breaking down, i can't repair it. But i also can't produce components, as i need the table for that.

Is there any good way to get components/advanced components? Do i just need to get lucky?

I might be able to form a caravan and maybe search any of the close-by maps for components, so at least i would be still able to repair stuff, but advanced components?

Thanks in advance for any hint and advic!

cargo pod drop perhaps.

advanced compents you get from the psychic/poison ship events when you destroy them. Otherwise traders might have some uncomonly.

regular components traders often like to have.

So check caravans that come to your town, build the communication console and check whenever trade ships are in the area, if non-hostile settlements are near you, check them now and then.

If your ally with a faction try ordering carvans.

Alternatively send someone with about 700 silver to a neutral or friendly settlement and hope they have some for sale.

Never had one of these, sounds like a harder fight ^^

I guess i should have done the communications console before.
Trade ships sounds like they might have what i need, caravans that camealong on their own so far never had any components. Maybe i was just unlucky.

Thanks for the tip!

trade ships are usually much better than caravans. They come around much more often and can have much higher stocks and money.

Ally caravans are usually the worst....I don't look at how many components but usually ally called bulk traders have only 300 steel. While I've seen up to 1k+ steel from settlements (Good luck if you lack a lot of pack animals getting that all home in one trip), Other day I saw a bulk trade ship with 1200 steel and its delivered outside your door.

Bulk goods caravans will always have 30-40 components, they are pretty cheap and buying them is the intended method of keeping your supplies up. Producing them yourself is a huge waste of time and resources, it's only in the game as like a fall back or if you want to be 100% self-sufficient and go to war with everyone. If you get low you can use the coms console to request a bulk goods caravan from a friendly faction, it's much easier than making your own caravan to visit a town.

Its really not so bad if make your settlement about 0.5 travel distance from one or two non-hostile settlements, Pack animals aren't much trouble in biomes that have grass year round if you let them roam.

And trading with settlements a lot helps reach ally status, and keep it.

The outlander factions (blue/purple) have advanced components for sale at their bases, as well as their exotic merchants are guaranteed to have them. Don't bother with the tribal factions (green/yellow) as they are not high enough tech to carry them.

You can also manufacture advanced components with the advanced fabrication tech, although it takes I think 2 advanced components to make the bench itself to begin with.

Less reliabe: some of the trader ships have them sometimes, sometimes the outlander bulk merchants have them, poison/psychic ships drop 1 when killed, sometimes you can get some quests for them.

Thanks for this info, i'll try to see if any settlement is around and pay them a visit then :)

Hope none are too far away. 10 days away by caravan is like longer than a game of orgeon trail....

You can simply buy advanced component by most traders. Then make your own stuff.

I usually trade sculpture against plasteel, gold and components

To get your first 2 advanced comps, you have to:

- trade with exotic / bulk goods trader (caravan or ship)
- destroy poison / psionic ship
- go out to buy from friendly non-tribal factions

trader sells them, or you can get them from quests. just have to wait until you get such a quest.

but that is one reason not to build too many things that need components, before you find a supply of components (making them or get traders that have provided you with plenty of them).

if you can go to other tiles for mining, that would be a good possibility to get back into operation with regular components.
