Long range mineral scanner problems
I've noticed that the LRMS now needs to be manned by a pawn. However none of my pawns (reaserchers), seem to want to use it, if they are forced to prioritise then they they will only stay on it for a few secounds.

Has anyone else found this? i wonder if its a Mod conflict.

Thanks

that seems to be exactly it, they won't stay on it for a secound before running off to do some research. I geuss its a v1 bug.

Its not a mod clash it is just lower priority job than tech research, so either have no research going or have lots of pawns with highest priority in research to make sure it gets manned.

IMHO the LRMS is not an efficient use of time as you can probably make more money farming drugs etc and then buying the uranium, plasteel or whatever with that pawn than waiting for those missions that can take weeks to happen. The hauling caravan is a pain too with all the muffalos needed - but I guess if you get really desperate for one specific thing then its better than waiting for the right trader to come by..

Cheers guys that narrowed down the problem and gave a solution. I'm painfully short of Steel of all things hence the need, hope it it wil lbe faster then sending peeps out for 4 days to trade for it.

Steel???? Don't bother with the long range scanner and build the ground penetrating scanner. You're sitting on a motherload of steel!

not quite there yet research wise, although i#m getting to it due to the wait of this damn mineral scanner :)

Ahh. I always go for deep drilling first. I forgot it was further down the tree than the long range scanner.

So i made sure there was no active research, a pawn will now go to work on the scanner by themselves but will abandon it almost instantly for anything else (including praying).

Do you think it's a bug where the scanners priority has been set to the lowest?

I never use that scanner, but if you only have one person set to research, you might have to stop your current research project, if you can (never tried) or wait until it finishes and not pick a new research project.

If you have two pawns set to research as the #1 priority, there shouldn't really be a problem.

unfortuantly there is a problem, they just wont touch it / stay on it regaurdless. Can anyone who actually uses it confirm if it's borked or not?

I find it best to have 2 researchers with overlapping work scehedules and only 1 research bench. I generally aim for a 2-3 hours overlapping work schedule. For example:

1. Researcher A is scheduled to work from 0900-2100.
2. Research B is scheduled to work from 1900-0900

When the bench is busy, the other researcher will use long range scanner for a few hours.

Usually, I always have a quest on the world map for minerals with this method of 2-3 hours a day. Just don't have time/manpower to do each quest.

If you were to assign 2 full time researchers to only 1 bench with same work schedule, you should get 1researcher to stay on the scanner full time and you should in theory get a lot of
mineral quests.

thanks for the advice, is that working for you then? As i've tried somthing similar, if that's the case seems like it might be a MOD script conflict.

try to force a pawns to use the long range scanner, if it works, there are no reasons that there's a mod conflict

They won't stay on it if forced (or otherwise).

they stay a little moment, just enough to make one try to spawn a quest. But it's especially to see if there's a conflict between a mod and the possibility for pawns to use the scanner
