If the raiders are dressed for cold weather and at best are wearing a megatherium parka or muffalo, then that one piece of apparel will protect them in temperatures as cold as -120C! Even if they were wearing regular cloth parka, they'll be able to withstand -40C.
So, it would only be likely to be effective in non cold biomes when the raiders are not expected to wear winter clothing.
This would make it a seasonal and biome specific defensive strategy, and only if you had opted for an underground mountain base.
Let us know how your testing goes. I won't be using it.
Jungle is pretty hot by default 27°, this makes it a step easier.
You can make a 200 tiles long tunnel and heat it up with some fire fine. And if you make it 250 tiles, you just have to wait 10s longer for the fire to heat it up.
Freez traps on the other hand, getting a 30 tile room/tunnel to a level that kills will be hard and expensiv. And you can't just make the tunnel longer, you will need more freezers to do so. That are working on full power. A lot of power.
And even if you manage to do all of this: Freezer Units are one of Raiders most liked targets, they will start breaking them.
in short
5 wooden tabels and a fire = like 200 wood, works on most sizes, cannot be broken
20 freezers = 40 parts and a lot of steel, only on small killboxes, easy to break
I'm being 100% serious when I say that 'jungle' should now be spelled 'djungle'
Until I figured out to use tables, I tried burning a hive with heaters. I made more and more until I had to turn off everything else connected to my geothermal, about 16 heaters. This made the bugs slightly uncomfortable and then a pack of manhunting gazelle galloped past my disabled turrets.
It's one of my mist have mods just for convenience.
One can only shoot so many bugs before it's more of a hassle than a feature.
A long tunnel, where most of the raiders go crazy because of hunger, exhaustion and kill themselves and the remaining raiders get frozen to death.
Sometimes, when you're still a bit sleepy, you fail to switch fully from your mothertongue language to the foreign language, you're writing in in the forums...
