Freezer Trap, is it possible?
I've seen with fascination some trap designs, basically the two most popular ones with the flametrap, luring a raid party into a long tunnel filled with sandbags, then closing entrance and exit, after you've set stools on fire and the psychotrap, where the tunnel is so long, they begin to starve, become exhausted and go crazy in there, tearing themselves appart.

But I'm trying to think of something new and thought of a freezer trap.
I've seen an old video from A16, where raiders died off pretty quick due to hypothermia, the guy had a really short tunnel with the walls consisting only of active freezers.

Sadly, I've read in the comments, that since an update in such a case raiders start attacking the coolers.

So how would you build a freezer trap?

A normal tunnel with a vent here and there, free spacing tunnel parallel running to it with a wall of freezers there, so raiders can't immediately reach the coolers?
Would that work?

It seems to be most promising, since you wouldn't need to put out fires, loot wouldn't become damaged but it seems to be hard to pull off (and energy hungry, but what do you have geysirs for if not for that? ;) )

Did any of you guys try to get a freezer trap running in B18?

I suppose it might be possible if you've bunkered in deep under a mountain or something, but how effective it would be is doubtful.
If the raiders are dressed for cold weather and at best are wearing a megatherium parka or muffalo, then that one piece of apparel will protect them in temperatures as cold as -120C! Even if they were wearing regular cloth parka, they'll be able to withstand -40C.
So, it would only be likely to be effective in non cold biomes when the raiders are not expected to wear winter clothing.
This would make it a seasonal and biome specific defensive strategy, and only if you had opted for an underground mountain base.
Let us know how your testing goes. I won't be using it.

Well, luckily my current colony is in a jungle, so I don't except many visitors, friendly or hostile ones, having winter clothing :D

It takes a lot of freezers, I suggest you using the opposite, heat.
Jungle is pretty hot by default 27°, this makes it a step easier.

I asked this myself when an infestation that'd eaten through a quarter of the mountainous area i was building in grew to some 100~ combined buggers. Did a little digging and it seems that the temperature that coolers cap out at isnt enough to do much more than irritate most enemies. Power consumption is likely absurdly high, and as another has mentioned, it isn't unlikely raiders are equipped for cold.

The quantum freezer mod might help with this. It can make some stupidly low temps.

Unlike Heat Traps, Freeze Traps have problems with bigger rooms.

You can make a 200 tiles long tunnel and heat it up with some fire fine. And if you make it 250 tiles, you just have to wait 10s longer for the fire to heat it up.

Freez traps on the other hand, getting a 30 tile room/tunnel to a level that kills will be hard and expensiv. And you can't just make the tunnel longer, you will need more freezers to do so. That are working on full power. A lot of power.

And even if you manage to do all of this: Freezer Units are one of Raiders most liked targets, they will start breaking them.

in short
5 wooden tabels and a fire = like 200 wood, works on most sizes, cannot be broken
20 freezers = 40 parts and a lot of steel, only on small killboxes, easy to break

I'm being 100% serious when I say that 'jungle' should now be spelled 'djungle'
I think it is more practical to make a frozen killbox as opposed to a frozen room which frezes foes to death.

Be the change that you want to see, Djumach.

Until I figured out to use tables, I tried burning a hive with heaters. I made more and more until I had to turn off everything else connected to my geothermal, about 16 heaters. This made the bugs slightly uncomfortable and then a pack of manhunting gazelle galloped past my disabled turrets.

There is a furnace mod for burning out insects. Generally on any map I think I'm going to have insects spawn in I'll put a.furnace or 3 in that area and.close it in . But the furnace on a switch and when the bugs spawn I flip the switch and watch them boil.

It's one of my mist have mods just for convenience.

One can only shoot so many bugs before it's more of a hassle than a feature.

Hmm, maybe I should take this advice, that it works in small rooms, into consideration.
A long tunnel, where most of the raiders go crazy because of hunger, exhaustion and kill themselves and the remaining raiders get frozen to death.

In German, you spell it as Dschungel. Also Dschihad.

Sometimes, when you're still a bit sleepy, you fail to switch fully from your mothertongue language to the foreign language, you're writing in in the forums...
