Do sandbags really work for slowing people down?
If so, its not readily apparent to me, and I've got a small field's worth of sandbags to repair after every firefight (from shooting a bajillion bullets into the raiders moving over them).
Plus, do they give coverage to the raiders?
Is there an alternative?
Maybe I'll pull the whole area apart and figure something else out, its just seems like too much time spent repairing these guys.

They slow them down, not a ton but enough to make a difference when placed strategically. And yes they provide cover for the raiders so keep that in mind.

Ahh okay, well....shoot, at least they slow them down some...really wasn't too sure if maybe they'd patched that up or something.

Also, sandbags are marked as "PassThroughOnly", so with some clever design you can use them as the only entrance into a killbox, whereby a raider leaps over a line of sandbags (or crawls, I guess) and is forced into the killing zone.

If you're just stuffing the entrance full and shooting into it then yeah it's not exactly efficent since each layer counts as something you end up shooting instead of a raider. They make excellent speedbumps however in a speed trap or bottleneck designed to slow them down and let you get into position and try to handle them piecemeal instead as one big murderball. It can make a real difference if you're able to land some explosives as they pour out or unload with a minigun/LMG. Those guns actually rely on bunched up crowds since they miss so much it's a 3x3 AOE attack.

I'd say use rockchunks but honestly those are way too useful as rock blocks for solid fireproof walls. Plus if you filled the trap up and then later started making blocks you'd be emptying your speed trap eventually.

Ahh okay, I'll take a look at some pictures and see if I can't find a more efficient setup for them then.
Yeah, I just got it so that raiders have to go through a single entrance, then crawl over a field of sandbags and take fire from my pawns and turrets, firing down on them from above (and of course, through the sandbags in front of them (they've yet to get past)).
Maybe an IED right in the middle of them, huh? I can give that a shot...

If you're using mods, I'd recommend using one of mine for that purpose. It adds two IEDs that do minimal structural damage (like, 1hp of damage). Be warned though that the more powerful one requires other research.

Just go look up "Exotic's Fine Weaponry" if you like.

Otherwise, something like TerraformRimworld might be more up your alley, so you can use mud again like pre-B19.

Wow you not only made your own mod, but it looks amazing! Right on, thanks so much =]

The Medieval Times mod also adds some other useful things to this, like steel caltrops which force enemies to move slowly over them with a chance of dealing stab damage to them in the process.

There was also a mod that added barbed wire which slowed enemies down like sandbags but without providing cover... but I don't know what happened to it.

Build a wooden floor, set it on fire and let it burn, don't repair it, that will cut movement speed down by a lot also.

Errr,,, I haven't done this since B18 but I've gotten so adept at overly efficient killboxes I just don't bother with it anymore. (and lots of traps)
