Chain Shotgun Colony
In my next game , I am planning to craft very high quality chain shotguns and arm everyone with them. Base defence will be 12 tile long so that they can fire the moment they see the enemy. Infestations also can be dealt with easily. Wiki says Chain shotgun got a buff to range and accuracy in 1.0 so it can be viable now. What are your opinions?

Don't know about viability, but it sure sounds like fun. Check the armor penetration though, I'm not sure what it is on the chain shotgun for this version but you may need to supplement your firepower with some traps and turrets and such - that just makes the game more fun though in my opinion.

Yea, my opinion is it sounds like it'll be a pretty enjoyable challenge - you might consider a spiral base design with your base rooms as the walls of the spiral maze with doors on the inside and outside layer of the spiral so you can just pass through it, but enemies trying to get in have to run all the way to the center through a death-corridor with your shotgun colonists popping out every inch of the way through the walls. :)

I tried a 'good chain shotgun' on my trigger happy 16 skill hunter the results are fantastic! He one shotted an elephant. He can kill large animals easily, even thrumbos dont resist too much. I set up my defenses so that my colonists have 12-13 tiles max between my enemies. I am starting to mass produce chain shotguns now. Btw I set my faction name to Rednecks :)

I have now 14 chain shotgun users. The recent buff made this weapon awesome! Its instant slaughter now :steamhappy: Exceptional damage + huge stopping power makes this the close range champion now

What's your plan when the enemies show up with sniper rifles?

Well, I killed 5 raiders with sniper rifles last raid already. The range when the enemy enters my defenses is 12 tiles.
Sniper rifles aren't really that great if Vertibird has a base with turns in the corridors every 12 tiles lol.

Within 13 tiles they are in my " asta la vista baby! " range where they meet my shotties :steamhappy:

After giving a chain shotgun a go in my last game, I'm glad to see it so effective. It helped with a few drop pod raids. I never bother with close range save for the super shotgun from the Doom mod. I may keep a couple combat pawns set for using chain shotguns in my future games.

My hunter even one shotted an elephant! I check the dead animals most rhinos and elephants suffer permanent brain and eye damage. Also chain shotgun stop movement of scythers. Scythers tend to die from shattered reactor when hit by this weapon.
Chain shotgun hits like a truck, stops like they hit a wall! Weapon of choice for redneck colonies :steamhappy:

Between this one and your other post on drugs schedules, I imagine your colonists all wear bowler hats and speak with caricatural mafioso accents !
