Leather and fabrics for clothing
Hi,

while playing the latest Alpha I wanted to go for a 'selfproduced clothing only' take, starting in midgame.

So right now I'm about to get my lifestock and materials together. At first, everyone was handed a set of selfproduced set consisting out of: Button Down, Pants, Duster, Cowboy Hat all made from normal cloth.

I already have 2 Muffalos and 2 Alpacas but I was wondering how the armor values on non armor clothing will turn out soooo:

Is going for Megasloth clothing worth the effort?

It is not only in terms of armor but also in terms of style, how does the color turn out on such clothing? A bright, creamy beige?

What's the best material to have the duster and the cowboy hat hit a 'real' leathery brown?

Are Devilstrand growthrates high enough to go for Devilstrand pants and button down?

Thanks =)

plain leather from deer makes good hats and stuff. muffalo cloths almost look blue. alpaca and megasloth are creemish. devil strand is worth it for under shirst and stuff but grow it in a temp controled area because it takes forever to grow and is sensitve so a cold snap could wipe it or even just winter. armor for all clothing is so low it wont make much of a differance but if you want to see it go to the crafting menu and click the info thing. that should give you the stuff you need to know.

Ok, then I'll go for DS-underclothing and make use of the Dye Vat mod for Duster/Hat and armor.

Wasn't intending to do so in the beginning but the idea of a Megasloth Ranch really intrigued me now but the bright creamy color is just awful for clothing ^.^

Thanks :)

If you plant devilstrand in rich soil, it should take around 2 months to fully grow. If you want to grow them all year, you will need to put it in a room and add an AC, heater and sun lamp and turn that growing area into a room to prevent wild animals from eating it unless your settlement is in the tropic rainforest region.

I have done full devistrand and it greatly improves the durability of pawns and also the size of raids, lol. I don't know what you mean by growth rates, just grow enough to keep your crafter busy. I stopped making anything else as. If it gets cold on your map you need to be careful as it takes 22.5 days to grow.

As I'm going for a vault like colony with as little outside activity as possible, I even thought about Hydroponics with the DS but that would probably be too 'squishy' in terms of 'Zzzt' and solar flares.

I guess I'll build a greenhouse right next to the 'vault door' :D

Or does the moisture pump produce soil out of rocky ground inside a mountain? I'm pretty sure back in the day there was kind of a soil spread pump available but it was patched out a long time ago (don't know if it has returned).

Nope, the moisture pump only removes moisture, doesn't add it. Unless there is a mod for that function.

Not sure you can grow DS in a hydroponic farm. Not in B18. Haven't tried in B19.

outer layer clothes is most important. trumbo fur pimp tier dusters are totaly worth it, they are basically a whole body armor vest. heavy fur is also pretty god, around 40% sharp prot means about 30% of most ranged shots will do half damage bruises
