Anytime I have a naked prisoner and drop clothes in the cell, they will always put it on, be it a shirt or pants or tribalwear, to get rid of the naked debuff. And it doesn't matter how I put it in the cell.. stockpile, dropping and forbidding.. whatever.

However, they don't seem to pick up the outer clothing such as parkas. Playing on a cold biome where winters could reach -50C, I was trying to get a prisoner to wear a parka and a tuque before I released them, but no sir could I get them to wear it.
I fed them until spring then gave them the boot...

If people actually had their prisoners pick up outerwear, maybe they can describe the criteria surrounding it.

Edit: The armor explanation makes sense. I think I was trying to get them to wear a muffalo wool parka. But then again, they still didn't have a jacket in the first place.

Some of my prisoners were naked, others had shirt/pants on. I tossed some of the old parkas my colonists didn't wear anymore into the prison cell room using a stockpile specifically just for parkas with more than 50% hit points but less than 100%. That's it. Whenever they were well enough to get up and wander around they always put it on, even when I had heaters in the room.

Edit: Ah, the armor thing might be it then. Since the parkas that I placed in the prison rooms were the old ones my colonists wore before, they were made with better protection/insulation. I don't use wool for parkas since heavy fur/thrumbo fur covers what my colonists need temp wise and they have the best affordable sharp protection.

When in doubt about the longevity of prisoners just harvest as much of their body parts as you can. Remove the extremities first, the ears, nose, both eyes and if you have death rattle you can get the stomach, liver and heart before they die if you're quick enough. Organs for everyone!

I think the parkas I was trying to get them to wear were old ones too. Can't remember now. I never focused on prisoners much before. Just recruited them or released them.

I'll have to build my own fort Knox and turn my next colony into a prison camp. Be a new game.. how many prisoners can you maintain.

That sounds like it would be a major headache when they prison break. lol. Take some screenshots once you have a decent number of prisoners. I'd love to see!

The break would be the fun part lol. If I come up with something worthwhile I'll post it.

Just had the same thing happen again. I made sure to strip them of everything they were wearing, then left shirt, pants and parka in their room. They wore the shirt and pants, totally ignored the parka, and eventually died of hypothermia. This seems like a bug to me.

What were the stats of the shirt and pants? I don't understand why they wouldn't wear the parka with it. Hmm... Can you try placing just parka in there without anything else and see if the prisoner wears it? Try to use leather parka, maybe heavy fur or bluefur. Don't put in parkas made out of wool.

I don't remember the stats of the shirt & pants exactly but they weren't anything special; prisoners get whatever's lying around :p I've just made a new thrumbofur parka so I'll use that for the next experiment.

If your prisoners refuse to wear the thrumbofur parka, they deserve to freeze to death.

Results of my latest research, using cloth button-down shirt, cloth pants, thrumbofur parka:

If prisoner is already wearing shirt & pants, they won't touch the parka. If I strip them and leave all three items on the floor, prisoner will wear EITHER parka & pants, or shirt & pants, but never all three.

Must be an issue with their wearables restrictions

Sounds like the clothing slot tab is misaligned, actually.

Do this: test it with a duster as well. If the pawn can use pants+shirt+duster, then somehow parka is using the wrong clothing slot. A pawn should be able to wear a duster *or* a parka, it's intended to use the same slot.

Good advice above on the 1x1 storage zone: pretty sure all pawns (even prisoners) obey zoning rules & by default non-colonists (i.e. pawns =/= yours) will ignore items you own left on the ground. (Been a while, might have changed, but it was to prevent people abusing it for raids. e.g. sprinkle the ground with items, raiders spent the entire time doing a treasure hunt instead of raiding, leading to easy massacres. Back in 14, from memory).

If the prisoner is truly naked the clothes will work. If not, and they need heavier, strip them and put something better in their cell.

i am a pro at prisoner keeping: what you do is you build a shelf go to storage and clear all but Appeal make sure you filter all appeal but trivalwear (make sure all the tribal wear is made out of wool or camel hair) once you turn the room into a prisoner room your pawns cant use the items on the shelfs and vise versa.
make sure your prison only has 1 exit door and your farm animals on the next room (cows and mufalos, ,my case thurombo's lol) if they break out they ♥♥♥♥ out luck with tribal wear and no weapon vs your animals its GG for them.

PS: dont strip bedridden prisoners because they wont change is they are in bed...
