Getting rid of tainted clothes?
How can i sort away the tainted stuff that i foolishly collected in the beginning of the game?

Some of it has Excellent condition, so i can't burn it, that would burn my untainted excellent condition clothes as well.

I wish there was a way to pick up a limited number of objects to have in your inventory, but afaik its not possible.

If there's no easy way (dev should really fix this, if so) - is there a mod that works for latest 1.0?

Thanks

Forbid all your nontainted clothes first, they won't burn them.

Also stockpiles can be set to take tainted/nontainted, so you can put an outdoor stockpile and just let it rot

You could also set the "Burn Apperal" bill to have a short range (there should be a slider in the details menu), then create a stockpile around your campfire/incinerator that only accepts Deadman's Apperal.

Thanks, i didn't know there was a setting for tainted for Stockpiles :)

I will admit I edit my saves to remove the tainted part from clothing. I don’t feel it should be a worry in the game where every ounce of meterial counts.

Maybe one day I’ll look into making a mod to remove the tainted from clothing after a certain time, or a way to ‘wash’ them. Something really needs to be done though. If I’m trying to survive on a foreign planet while I’m naked, I’m not going to worry about the clothes being worn by someone else.

Especially armor.

I don't mind it too much. Worst case scenario you wear a dead man's stuff (with a small debuff) until you can create your own clothes or just buy it - which is kind of realistic at least, i bet a lot of people would do this IRL... But it's mainly a balancing thing, so personally i would not mod it out.

In many RPG's your stolen items can not be sold or are "tainted" in the same sense, it's also not realism, it's for balancing.

It's new, was formerly a mod.

I believe there is a mod that does allow washing to remove "tainted" or "deadman's" as it was called previously, prob not ready for 1.0 yet though.

Agreed on the balancing. I know why it’s there and the purpose. Just my personal opinion I don’t care for the way it works. You can shoot a guy up with no issues as long as you strip him before he dies, but the moment he dies his clothes are forever tainted? I would be more worried about blood soaked clothes being 2nd hand than a guy who just died of a heart attack.

One way to solve the balancing would perhaps be to have the taint timed, maybe for two seasons or so. Then it's still something which is somewhat "costly" for the player since you have to store it indoors.

If you're on A18, you can use the Mending mod to repair tainted clothes to remove the designation. It's not updated for 1.0 tho... yet.

Personally I hate the tainted clothes designation... at least give us a viable way to remove it in vanilla like 'washing' them or a certain time frame has to pass before it goes away. (or both)

All tho I know this probably introduces some balancing issues as you can stockpile massive loads of gear and quickly.

in the materials section for the bill, just turn off non deadmans apparel and your non deadman stuff will be left alone.

Depending on my mood, here lately I've been using a mod which removes the deadmans debuff because I feel that if I'm on a hostile planet where everything is trying to kill me and all being led by a jackass named Randy Random that my pawns wouldn't mind a bloodstain or 2 if it were life and death.

Other times I immediately keep my pawns in the best stuff (a modest bit of micromanagement a minute or 3 an hour so biggy) and burn the rest.

Other times I sell everything just to make room.

And lastly, I set my furnace to burn anything less than perfect and 60% I think it is. I may have a few deadmans stuff left over, but mostly it's all damaged to less than 60% as I filled them full of holes or BBQ'd them so that takes care of a lot of bad clothes.
A faster way to get rid of tainted clothes (and bodies...) is creating a room in a mountain or with stone walls putting everything you want to get rid off inside and then throw a molotov. Then step aside and watch the world burn.

(Tip : remove "base area" from your "burn room" your colonist will try to clean it even when it's 2000° hot...)

Or put up a couple of stone doors and X them off. Either way.
