Put meals, veggies or kibble directly in their cells and deselect "feed prisoner" in the prison menu.

The best way to stop your prisoners from being fed expensive meals is to change their food policy in their health tab.

Select the prisoner, go to their health screen in the pawn info and you will see that the tab has a food restriction selection box at the top of the health overview tab. Change this from something like "Lavish" (that all your colonists normally use) and set it down to something like "Simple" for example. The prisoner will now only consume simple meals (or whatever you have set the meals to.)

You can make your own meal type with the Assign tab in the bottom menu bar. Select Manage food restrictions at the top of the window that opens. Select food restriction policy and either modify it, or you can make a whole new one using the New Food Restriction tab instead.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the help! If only someone said this 2 years ago. How did you even dig this up?

Food restrictions were added in 1.0

Guys stop this was over 2 years ago, lmao. I think we all know how to change diets in the game now. It wasn't a thing back in the day but 1.0 changed that, I get it.

Nothing wrong with some necromancy.

Without mods it's a hassle. You can do it by zoning, and nearly make your warden eat the prisoners food to. The thing is that wardens will feed prisoners the same food they get self.
Or you use a mod to restrict food, the easiest way.

Or you place kibble in there and set them to no food, they will eat the kibble that was made out of their raider friends and you don´t have to send someone to feed them!
