Saving created characters?
As I wrote. This refers to the player's own pool, not for pay-to-hardcode characters upon the alpha release.
The narrative design and pawn development enrich gameplay, so it comes as little surprise players can get attached.
At the moment am I right to assume pawns I design at startup are specific to that particular game file?

On a side note, how many pawn characters are there presently?

Also, if your pawns escape, are they then immortalized at the difficulty/storyteller/mod setting? That would be great incentive to play carefully especially if the original characters are required to survive.

Yes.

Sort of infinite. I don't know how many names there are, but even with the backer names most of the pawn is randomized and can be created multiple times in one world, so you could get two very different Mins in one game.

Depends on which "escape" you mean. If a pawn is in prison and escapes the map, they are stored in that world and could come back later as part of a raid or something. If they leave on a spaceship, I'm not sure, but I think they are gone. In either case it only applies to that save file though, if you start a new game none of your characters will carry over in any way.

The game doesn't save any characters or have any preset characters at all. Like I said even the backer characters are just a name and a backstory, maybe a trait, but are mostly random. If you use a mod like Prepare Carefully as mentioned above, you can design and save characters and load them into new worlds, but it only lets you mess with the starting characters.
