What is it with the "Research is a long term task"?
seriously, what does that mean, why is it in the game, does it go away (and when), because it is pissing me off

it means that you can't force it via right-click.
set research as a 1, and everything else to <=2

Luckily for me my reseracher is usually my healer so hes always doing it. If not i just have a slacker in my colony that doesn't do anything else. No need to prioritize it.

i guess not, but I like to give all of my colonists some sort of task besides one thing, it just seems that they research less and less

I think it's more to just point out that a single research assignment will take multiple days to finish while other tasks in the games are shorter, the next longest probably being building a high end weapon like the charge rifle which can be done in a single day.

If you prioritize it, as in clicking your colonist then right clicking the bench to prioritize research, they will stay on it until their needs prevent them from being able to like passing out from tiredness. So you should just let their regular work priorities dictate when they research.

If you want them to research more, increase the research priority of you higher intelligence colonists.

You can never, at any point in the game, force prioritize a research task. If you want them to research you need to make that their main priority on the work menu and they will do it on their own.

Get more colonists so they can all have a specific thing to do. The work tab is prioritized left to right in addtion to the numbers, so if you have cooking as a 1 and research as a 1, that colonist will always do cooking before research. If you want them to do research all the time it needs to be the only normal task they have on that priority level.

My research people only research, if I want them to do other things other than research I tick another box.

Depends how many people you have, the game has a sort of limit to how many people you can have, so it seems to get harder to have more.

The only ways to get more is to capture people or rescue people, which as soon as you have a large colony you'll have to start capturing too, or they will just walk off as soon as they can, or the escaped from raiders event.

Randy is the best for getting more people, or modding. Dont have 10 people all shooting at one enemy or there wont be much left to capture. My turrets usually do a good job of not completely killing people.

Use clubs or maces on the fleeing raiders.
