Can you not use pods to trade?
I have a request to deliver 25 clubs to a faction but if I try and use a pod to send the clubs it says I'm giving it as a gift.

I believe you have to physically go there. Also, if they are offering a reward, then sending them a pod doesnt give them a way to give you the reward (under the concept of them not having a pod to send).

You can use pods to trade, the same way you can use muffalo to trade.

You aren't going to send the muffalo caravan with no humans to guide them and do the talking, will you?
Similarly, don't send Drop Pod to go and trade without an interpreter. Drop pods on their own seem to think the right price for everything is "gift"

You need two things present to fulfill a trade caravan request.

1) The items asked for.

2) An actual pawn to finalize the exchange.

You tried to fulfill the quest without requirement #2. It's still technically a caravan quest, and caravans don't exist without a colonist. The "Fulfill Trade Request" button won't even highlight for you if you don't have a colonist there with the goods. It's perfectly fine to use a transport pod to send the pawn and the goods, but you can't send the goods all by themselves (like, you can't even do it and immediately send the pawn after in a separate pod). Also, the pawn *WILL* have to hoof it back the long way, so make sure they have provisions for the journey home.

Nah..
Just send along (or buy) some steel, components and chemfuel.
Have the sucker set up camp and build himself a return rocket.

And yes, you can fit enough stuff in one drop-pod to build another one, PLUS the person to do the building.

You cant build when visiting a colony, you would need to attack it to be able to zoom in. So you can, but at the cost of some goodwill.

Can't you just use the drop pod to send them a tile near the colony you wanted to trade with?

Sending stuff on the world map without a pawn accompanying them will make simply make you lose the supplies. Even if you were to send X amount of Y for a trading request, you still need a pawn to go with it or it doesn't count, as there's no mechanic in-game for settlements to count the requested items.

Trade missions give out rewards to the caravan that fulfills mission. Also to fulfil trade mission you must click specific button that's only available when caravan is on that tile.
The way to use drop pods is to send a single colonist to that village, drop pod clubs to caravan and then fulfil mission, but be careful: that single colonist needs to have enough capacity to bring rewards back so some horses (+faster travel!) or pack animals help.
