Long Term Goal
So I've always wanted to play the game for mass amounts of hours without getting bored within a few hours, being unhappy with some selections I made or even just having a colony get wiped out, even doing the actual goal which is to get off the planet. I hardly want to do anyways.

I was wondering if anyone did anything special, or maybe, had an idea or goal they usually do or can come up with to make the game last longer, maybe try and take over the entire planet? (If you can even take over/whip out a faction I don't know I have never tried) starting with a tribe, getting mods to make the game even harder, or have a different setting like the recent Lord of The Rims mods.

Let me know what you do, if you have certain goals, or anything at all really. Thank you.

i usually try to play my colonist on multiple generation, see if I can survive the natural death of the smartest strongest colonist and start again.
and without using kill box

extreme biome can be fun.I heard...

A long term goal, you say?

Well, you could go for something this size...https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1406331796

You could build a small fortress to defend your base entrances that will withstand sustained heavy attack...https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1406332865

You could grow a large herd to build a highway network across your planet...https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1406334885

There's lots of things you could do.

I like to play to the point where the game is almost broken because of ridiculous modded stats. Like full sets of EPOE/Mechalit implants, advanced tools, repeatable stat boost techs, infusion stat bonuses on modded armor with additional stat bonuses. It takes quite a bit of time to create a perfect storm of bonuses to create a monster colonist capable of say fully mining out an entire mountain map in a day, or colonists that can walk 140 tiles per second and finish every hauling task you could ever need done in the blink of an eye.

Actually, if you're doing repeatable stat upgrades, that only takes a few in-game years. I think around 40-44 is when it hits 140c/s.

I'm some kind of a Noah like collector and want to have all possible kinds of creatures in my service, and it's a lot considering I play with beastmen tribes (+10 races of humanoids), and genetic rim and cosmic horrors.

Actually (year 15) I finally managed to have colonist(s) of each of the ten beastmen cultures (wasn't easy, everytime I was about to complete the list I got some killed).

I'm also not far to have representants of all animals species supporting cold climate and most possible crossbreeds with them and eldritch creatures (I had representants of 27 species of animals including a dozen genetic creations last time I counted).

But I still need several dozens (?) more (and to developp a base near the equator for those wanting hot climate) to be able to create a complete arch (then I'll either create the ship, summon Cthulhu to replace the flood ... or install Megafauna and Dinosauria to be able to continue taming things).

Woah you really went above and beyond, that sounds like it took FOREVER to do that, would you mind sharing some screenshots with me? If you don't mind, I am curious to what this looks like haha.

Well... those are certainly the types of ideas I was looking for, the first one is more of what I meant or at least, what I was thinking of doing. But I usually like the idea of a few good colonists, instead of a huge one, I don't think I could manage that many haha.

If it helps, I routinely have 100+ idle colonists just wandering around. They're mostly there as defenders for the next big raid; I had a lot of fun documenting the last two, so I'm just going bigger and bolder. A couple hundred is already at the far end of the "extreme" measure, Astasia has mentioned having a couple hundred but I believe still at a playable amount; my game is not playable but I'm both masochistic and disabled so I have nothing but time to slowly advance at 3-5fps.

Is that for a love of the game, or just because you've come so far let's go farther kinda deal?

A little of column A, a lot of column B. I will definitely make another map after this one finishes in whatever manner it does, and I won't go full-♥♥♥♥♥♥ on the number of colonists; maybe an even 100. Having a good number of disposable people is nice for just throwing them at an outpost and not being too worried about the outcome.

May I get a screenshot of your current setup with your colony? I am curious to see.

Certainly, but could you be more specific about what you mean by setup? Do you mean the entire base?

Edit: I have to run for a few hours, but I have some posts about it up in various places. This one https://steamcommunity.com/app/294100/discussions/0/1696043806576533898/ is my story of the Dire Raid, when I only had 200 colonists total and way 2 months ago (only 4 weeks ago in game-time). It's a fun read, and goes into a lot of detail at the end about what everything is.

Here is the core my main base with a genetic center near the big cathedral to the Old Ones (and 2 other temples, I also plan to make a dedicated chapel for each of the Cthulhu Mythos gods).

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1401972525

Some of my beastmen colonists can be seen here (sadly some can't be recognized as they are wearing helmets or Cthulhu masks but I had 8 or 9 different kinds at this point).

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1401963657

One of my animal farms (not with much variety, this one is my main mufffalo, boomalopes, chicken, wolves and black goats elevage with just a few more special creatures, the animals I keep near my base to milk/train to resume + parasytic cats because they are just everywhere).

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1401966983

I have 2 more animal areas further on the same map for the animals requiring less care (with foxes, lynxs, wapitis, deers, bears, etc.. and more crossbreeds), and one more in my secundary temperate forest base with mostly dogs, alpha rhinos, wargs and camels.
