Dead man's clothes
This mechanic is totally backwards. Let me tell you. When I was in a war, we loved stripping the corpses of our enemies. We felt empowered by wearing articles of enemy clothing. Wearing the clothing of the men we'd slain was a reminder of how formidable we were. A bit like a trophy in some aspect. A lot of guys loved to explain how they obtained their boots....

Just my two cents. In real life, most people wouldn't get depressed over wearing dead man's clothes. From my own experience, its actually the opposite.

This is fairly common knowledge and such acts have been recounted throughout history. Homer's Odyssey for example, is full of anecdotes of stripping the slain for their armour.
Clearly however, it is not something the dev considers desirable and so in this game world he has created, this is but one aspect that differs from the real world.
Try to accept what you cannot change or try change what you cannot accept ;)

And indeed wearing those clothes doesn't bother some pawns depending on their traits.

Most of the pawns in Rimworld are NOT military soldiers, and thus do not really represent what fighting soldiers in our real world may or may not see as normal.

It's a balance mechanic. Before the deadman's debuff was added crafting clothes or armor was entirely pointless. You'd get so much loot from every raid to cherry pick from that eventually all colonists would always be wearing pretty decent stuff, without having to put any effort into it. The rest of the drops would sell for loads of money and you'd never have to sell sculptures or drugs or anything like that. The game was basically entirely about farming raids, especially with cannibals. In order to add variety to gameplay, a reason to use the other game systems, raids had to be nerfed into the ground. The logic behind it doesn't matter, you can argue either way about realism, that's not the point.

At current state, even with mending mod which allows removing dead man state and restoring to pristine quality, you won't get much from shoddy pants you can find on raiders. You still want to make high quality gear. Moreover, since with repairs that gear would last, it actually makes sense making a lot of gear to get masterworks instead of wearing rags and selling good stuff while it is good and worth good money.

Yep, this is true of almost all decisions in Rimworld. Tynan values the game balance above all. Which is a good thing in my book, especially with the ease of modding, super easy (barely an invenience!*) to change things you personally don't like or want.

Are you trying to sound like a deranged serial killer? Because I don't think that's the image a professional military force of any civilized nation would want to project.

The point is to avoid making the player too rich too fast through raids - raiders drop guns and clothing, so the sale price of clothes (deadman flag) and guns (global nerf - guns sell for less than raw materials). Undoing this will obviously greatly unbalance the game.

I used a mod for a while that removed the "D" debuff from dropped clothes, and eventually removed the mod on my own. I was just overwhelmed with clothes, and the hassle of actually storing them in places to sell them outweighed the benefit of selling them for me. Reading the motivations behind the mechanic, it makes a lot of sense.

meh... I sell them anyway, at least until I've researched and built the crematorium, after which they just get burnt

What are you, some kind of MS13 gang member - stripping dead bodies and getting a boner from it? And really, what kind of soldier in 2018 even needs to wear the clothes of the dead?? I'd say your more of a spanking the bologne pony warrior than anything else. :steammocking:

Raiders can have any quality equipment, it's a lower chance for the highest quality stuff but the sheer number of raiders being killed means you will get a bunch of very high quality stuff that is often in very decent condition.

I think we need a new trait, Personally I don't even like puting my hands in my colleage work gloves, I hate it because I can tell that it wasn't my hands in them gloves before... Feels nasty.

Now the thought of wearing his sweaty T-shirt? I rather die.

So ends your story on a rim world. Naked and ungloved.

Why? The bloodlust trait can wear deadman's clothes without penalty.
