Is it possible to limit the amount of dirt in my buildings? Like putting a carpet right outside a door or something?

No. It should be noted, though, that various natural dirty objects (dirt, sand, etc) will not appear on natural flooring (dirt, sand, etc).

There is a carpet mod that helps keep dirt outside

The only way is to have sterile tile floors, they are the only floor I know that resists dirt buildup

If you cover a large enough area outside your base it's possible to trap most of the dirt there. When a colonist walks on dirt/sand it clings to them, then once they step onto flooring it has a chance to drop off with every step. So if they have to walk over a large enough patch of something like concrete to get back into the base, most of the dirt will remain outside. Then if you switch to hydroponics for your food you can completely remove any dirt buildup from your base.
