put food in hoppers beside it.
forbid the said food.
they will get a paste meal if their are no other food sources.

Tip.. You can grow food indoor..
Example build a square building with 4 fields.
Build a roof on the house, and next build the special lamps that can make plants grow.
And then build 2 heaters that you set to example 15 degrees.
Now you can plant and harvest all year.

Note this require allot of power, so it is best that this system have its own batterys and power source.

Also build a building for food.. Place 1 aircondition and select to cool with -5 degrees.
Now you have a refrigiator that can keep your food frozen so it will never spoil.
I recommend you build a power system and batterys that only are used for the cooler so that your base dont take all of your energy so that your freezer always are cold ;-)

I figured out how nutrient dispensers work, which is not intuitive at all and probably should be reworked. Currently you have to babysit the machine to make sure the corn or whatever it is that gets stuck in is forbidden. Otherwise the pawn just eats the corn. That's stupid. What happens if you do forbid the corn, but the corn runs out? The next corn to land in the hopper will not be forbidden, and the dumb colonist will eat the corn instead of making paste. It's just easier to just make simple meals or steaks and keep a cold room to even mess with the stupid nutrient dispenser. I thought nutrient dispenser was supposed to make feeding your pawns easier? It's a pain in the ass compared to just regular cooking, with none of the potential morale boost / portability. It doesn't help things that the the dispenser looks like every other workbench except for the fact that it doesn't get "worked" like other benches and has the weird hopper mechanic going on as well, with zero explanation as to how it all is supposed to work, because after building one first time, without any other info, your pawn is going to eat out of the hopper intead of making a paste meal, and that doesn't make sense, and easily looks like a broken aspect of the game. Easily one of the most frustrating things in the game that I hope gets re-worked if not taken out.

Nutrient paste machine is kinda supposed to be bad. It has two things that may make it worth using: nutrient paste is efficient and can't cause food poisonings. So you may want to use it when all your pawns are inept in cooking or you have food shortage (means extreme biomes).

Only pawns with the Ascetic trait should be eating raw corn. For non-ascetics, the mood debuff for eating paste isn't as bad as eating raw food.

So it might be a bug or a problem with a mod.

Or the buisness end of the dispenser is in a prison cell. Great for feeding prisoners but doesn't help the colonists themselves because they cannot interact with the machine.

one more thing, my prisoners keep breaking out what should i do

Nutrient paste machine is kinda supposed to be bad.
Then change the stats of the item to make it less desirable but punishing the player directly (to make 10 nutrient paste meals you have to wait until pawns are hungry, draft them after they pick up a meal, forbid the meal, and repeat a dozen times) is uncalled for.

Everyone would be feeding their icesheet livestock nutrient paste if the process weren't so bloody annoying.

The next corn to land in the hopper will not be forbidden, and the dumb colonist will eat the corn instead of making paste. It's just easier to just make simple meals or steaks and keep a cold room to even mess with the stupid nutrient dispenser
Well spotted. Rimworld punishes those trying to be clever, and rewards those who apply brute force (e.g. it's easier to build a freezer that is 10x bigger than it needs to be than to make cooks slaughter carcasses on demand).

The wiki has a pretty good writeup on the dispenser and hopper. https://rimworldwiki.com/wiki/Nutrient_paste_dispenser
