Collapsing a cave
Does anyone have a good method for doing it?

I'm just now starting a new game with the new version, and I want to build my base in the same place it was before. The map is actually still very similar in this version, except that one of the mountains I was using as a barrier now is honeycombed with passages. I'd like to collapse them, to discourage raiders from trying to dig through.

Since walls (manmade and natural) support roof up to 6 tiles away, there always be 6 tile gap between collapsed part and existing cave walls. Im filling caves with stone walls, if I want to make them unattractive to sappers.

You could do what elipod said but what you could try to do is fill the tunnels with traps (deadfalls or IEDs) to kill raiders trying dig through the mountain

my suggestion. ( i did not try this my self )

The roof in a hill/mountain will collapse when it is to wide without support.

So my suggestion is to build 1 wood wall here and there as support to prevent it from collapsing.
And then when you want it to collapse start a fire.. Once the wood burn the tunnel will collapse.
You can also install mines near the wood and when it detonate example when bandits run though it, then the roof will cave in.. maybe you can even make some kind of chain reaction and example shoot one mine/explosive and then the rest will detonate at the same time.
If you put the mines in a V shape, where the BIG end of the V is towards the enemy, and as they run towards the Bottom of the V shape then it will detonate in a chain reaction making everything collapse.. you know like a "kill zone."

Regarding fire, then you can control the direction of a fire.. Example fire follow electrical wires. So maybe run electrical wires close to wood walls and such to set it on fire. This is however a slow process.... BUT it could be a kind of fail safe system, that example when alien ants show up, that you can set your electrical wires on fire and the fire will run all the way into their nest and make the seeling collapse on them or setting fire to explosives ect.

But never the less i think that best defence against people who try to dig in, might be if you place 2 solid walls with 1 or 2 space inbetween.. The 1-2 empty space in the wall you fil lwith something that can burn.. When the enemy dig though, set fire to the empty space and they will burn inside of the wall. Only questions is, if this fire will spread fast enough.
Example you can make multiple doors so you can send in one of your guys, throw a molococtail and then exit.. I think that will do the job quite good and make them stop digging ;-)

Yeah, caves are a feature now. Be careful of them, they can also include bug nests, and ANY damage to the bugs will make them rush your base.

Thank you for the spoilers, now I know caves will be dangerous and the excitement was ruined.

I don't think many people here, care about spoilers. First time I've seen anyone upset about it.
Being upset about necroing old thread is, slightly more common.

When someone reads a thread about caves but is upset to learn about caves. Wow.

When someone reads a thread from a year ago and feels the need to revive it to say this. Wow.
