I also highly recommend the mod "More Planning", it gives you multiple colors to use with planning. Very helpful for things like you are looking to do and just great help in general for planning your base:

If you are planning on harvesting the ambrosia I have another tip that can help you.
Pause the game (just so they don't start doing something while you are working on this.) For each ambrosia plant, put a grow zone square down on the plant. Once you have a grow zone on every plant, zoom so the screen has just those grow zones in view. Now double click on one of the grow zones so that they are all selected. With them all selected, click the "Allow Sowing" switch so that they will not try to plant in those grow zones. Now your pawns will automatically come harvest the plants in those grow zones when they are fully grown. Un pause the game.
And yeah, I thought that camera views would be a nice mod and was a bit surprised that there wasn't one, given how very many mods this game has compared to the others play, especially since I did see one other camera related one (although I admit zoom mods are usually pretty darn easy). After spending a delightful several hours just looking at existing mods I'm surprised that I've already come up with several that I'd like and that might be feasible (don't know enough about the game, modding it or C# to have a great sense of what is possible here yet). I figured I wouldn't need to do any for this one, but if it gets me learning new things I won't object.
