Seriously tho, researching and making carpets is such a waste of everything involved. Just lay marble tile, it's not flammable and pretty enough that pawns will be happy to stay in the room.
Clothing. The stuff that is better made from wool or skin, and in lategame, devilstrand or hyperweave. This is your reason for making cotton?
Cotton is the most versatile material as it can be used to make all types of clothing. While its not the best material, it is the one with the least amount of maintanence.
Cotton can be grown in a hydroponics bay so all you need for supporting it is electricity. Wool requires you to feed the animal(s), which on some of the more extreme biomes, may not be feasibly possible.
If the guy is asking about ideal temperatures I imagine he is in one of these "extreme" biomes where winter or summer weather is a factor in him having to regulate the temperature.
You are playing the wrong game if you don't want to micromanage.
Of course, that does lead to a lot of leather that is barely used and then there becomes a stock issue for cotton and leather.
There are other ways to deal with leather but now, just have to remember about doing it too!
Marble.
That kind of rock I don't have on my map.
Any kind of rock will do, but marble is the one with the highest beauty and lowest hp, so it's optimal for floors and art. You can mine it on other map tiles or trade for it as well. Just call bulk goods traders.
Or make carpets and sell the rest. With the surplus cotton you get you can easily make $1000 per harvest. And the amount of space I have for cotton plants ain't even that big. Sure it goes for less than $1 a piece but each plant gives out a lot of cotton.
And hey it's a thing that modders can make more useful.
Plus if you have a stone building with a non flammable door and piece of stone floor in the doorway that room won't burn. Unless the fire starts inside.
Why are you letting raiders get into your bedrooms? The fact that carpets are flammable now has no impact on gameplay because your bedrooms should never be on fire, unless it's intentional (like to kill bugs).
