i don´t play the game in a long time. But i think it´s still using wood at the refinary.

use bamboo and refine it
bamboo grows fast

Bamboo or hops are my choice of what to turn into chemfuel. Wood is OK if you are in a biome with it growing but I like using a plant that can grow fast indoors because of the occasional volcanic or fallout conditions, or the cyclical winter season if you're affected by that.

Two ways:

1. Boomalopes
2. Chemfuel Refinery

Boomalopes can be acquired regardless of tech and only requires you keep your boomalopes fed. Chemfuel refinery requires you to research the appropriate tech but is far more efficient and far more versatile.

For mass production defintely the refinery. I'm pretty sure it takes a wide variety of organic matter as well so it'll come down to what you got in surplus or can get alot of in a short time. Pretty sure even food like rice can be tossed in now. The game has a very loose definintion of what counts as the fuel in chemfuel in my experience.

Deep mining. One chemfuel deposit is all you'll ever need for the entire game, unless you power your entire base on chemfuel and plan to play for 50+ years.

Heh, the first ever chemfuel I got in this game was from the infinite reactor, so it was "the easiest" for me. But after living long enough with all options, the best is the refinery. In the forest you don't even need to plant anything for it. It takes anything edible as a substrate, plus wood and narcotic plants, minus hay (which is stupid).

Boomalopes are a nice supplementation, and good if you move a short distance and utilise a camp mod for mining - then boomalopes give fuel, you mine components and steel, and send the stuff back home with transport pods. But boomalopes are too slow producers for mortar shells (good for generators, though).

Deep drilling gives you loads of chemfuel fast, but not enough even for my drop pod operations. If you don't use pods, only mortars, then maybe it is a good option. But I use about 900 chemfuel for an average, single drop pod mission, and the maximum you get from a single drill, under optimal conditions (full coverage) is 2700 (=270 HE shells or 90 incendiary shells), so it is just a secondary source.

I didn't consider drop pod use. Still one chemfuel deposit can be up to 30 tiles which is 9000 fuel at base mining efficiency, and each map can have dozens of them. I only ever use the refinery in emergencies, it takes too much time per operation and the yields are too low.
