Personally I've been having a ton of fun trying to build with no conduits at all. Just making sure any electrical device is with 6 tiles of a generator or battery. With that strategy, big battery stacks are a great investment instead of a hazard.
I cover all exterior conduits with concrete though, not to conceal it but as a fire prevention method.
No. Only walls. You can place them under doors but it doesn't really hide them. Normal cables will be displayed above all floor types, but something like concrete makes them less obvious.
I think the only places I have any 'exposed' conduits/cables is outside for connecting to Wind Turbines/Solar Panels/Geothermal/etc.. Or in the occasional LARGE storage-room where I want some light in the middle.
Everywhere else I keep them covered by something, which (I think) limits any penalty to beauty due to having them.
I can confirm that smoothed walls can 'hold' cables/conduits.

Honestly, the floor looks awesome when made out of it
