Should you bunch turrets together?
Because they might explode when they take damage, and then cause a chain explosion, can't they?
But I see some playthroughs placing them right next to each other, surrounded by sandbags.
Also, do turret explosions go through walls? Because there's a sandstone wall two-tiles thick that separates the turrets and my battery room. And a one-tile sandstone wall between turret and my colonist's defensive location.

I have my turrets together and it works because i have sand bags between them

I suppose the more turrets together the more their shots are likely to hit their marks, though if they're out-ranged I do believe it would be an issue. maybe not a chain reaction of explosions, that probably depends on the second turret's health, since I don't THINK one exploding turret could totally wipe out a second turret at full health, though maybe that depends on material used to make the turret as well, though if the explosion starts a fire then that may be another story. Your batteries should be safe though, but if it worries you, turrets can be reinstalled, their positioning is only as permanent as you want them to be.

Chain explosions can be a good thing. If, for example, you're fighting a predominantly melee raid, that's a good chunk of their force you don't need to worry about for the low cost of a few components and a small amount of steel.

Depends on how and where you are using your turrets. Bait in an open field, probably don't want to put them that close together. As a main part of your killing potential in a killbox, the tighter you pack them the more damage they can do, if they rarely get hit because everything dies so fast you don't really have to worry about the explosions.

For turret explosion damage a single layer of stone wall or sandbag is usually enough to soak it. Overall for explosions it depends on how much damage it does though, if it's a really strong explosion it can eat through a single layer wall and kill stuff on the other side. Grenades and rockets have a huge damage multiplier against walls so you might see that happen sometimes against them, especially if you are using weaker walls.
