If the toxicity gets up and past a certain point then the carcass will insta-rot, yes.

Yes, normal. Prepare for a meat shortage. Go to simple meals or nutrient paste if meat shortage can't be prevented from other means.

Yes it was changed in one of the last updates so they are rotten on death now.

Toxic fallout is not a direct threat, if you don't let your pawns to go outside for long time.
But its an indirect threat, couse all plants die, and animal corpses become rotten due to the poison buildup. Always keep food surplus what last for a quadrum.

At your current state, move to another tile (camp mod or allow more settlements in the menu), and set up a temporary base there, till you gather enough food ( and your main map has enugh wildlife).

Hunt them first, don't let the toxicity kill them.

if toxicity is on an animal you can kill it and quickly pause ans demand them to haul the animal manually and it wont rot if you can pick it up fast enough this is harder with longer range weapons so get close. take in mind you are desperate after all sometimes you have to take that chance, I tested this and it seems to work for me so give it a shot if you have the chance. best bet for success rate would be a shotgun tbh since its most powerful with short range

In toxic, plants that are already in the ground will grow and can be harvested. But no new plants can sprout, either wild plants or crops. A roofed greenhouse or hydroponics are your only options.

If you're tribal and not in a position to rush electricity research, it's a judgement call whether your stored food will be enough or you'll need to flee. (Since that's mostly the first year or two, toxic shouldn't last more than a quadrum or so.)

If you really don't have food, form a caravan and enter a neighboring map tile. That tile will not have nuclear fallout.
So hunt a bunch of animals and bring back their corpses.

- Animal corpses are much, much heavier than stacks of meat. Be sure to butcher and cook as much as you can before returning so you can carry more.

- Default game settings don't let you just enter a new map tile without abandoning your old base. There are a few ways to do so:
--- Wait until your caravan gets ambushed (that gives an event map with a short timer)
--- Attack a hostile settlement (that gives an event map with a longer timer)
--- Go into the scenario editor and increase your allowed colonies to more than 1. You can then have 2 bases. Odds of toxic on both are VERY small.
