Chocolate starvation?
I have well over 9K in chocolate but my people keep complaining about being "malnurished" and "starving".
Do I have to feed them real food?

Chocolate has very low nutritional value (0.1). They would have to eat like 9 of them in a row to equate a simple meal (0.9).

Chocolate is basically the weakest of drugs available. It's not meant to be a substitute, or even a supplement to conventional meals.

Give them food. Choco is not food. Its recreation.

first check: is chocolate an allowed food under their food restrictions plan?
Are they actually eating the stuff? I.e. do they get access to it when hungry, etc.

Also remember that chocolate gives very little nutrition, for a significant eating time. Your people would need to be eating about 1/5th of the whole day, to get enough chocolate in to serve their nutrition needs.

Not only does it give very little nutrition, but there's actually a limit to how much they can normally eat, making it impossible to keep them well fed with it. You can't brute force it with more chocolate, you need some actual food.

Ah yes, more of Tynan's brilliant game design - if a given item is too powerful (food that never spoils without any need for cooks or refrigeration) he just makes it too annoying to use (you have to manually order pawns to eat chocolate) instead of, you know, nerfing the unbalanced items.

What's next, armour that makes you invincible combined with a goon who watches you play and breaks your legs if you equip the armour?

Ah yes, more of AlexMBrennan personally insulting the guy that built the game because he thinks it makes him look cool. Could you please post a link to the game you designed? I'm sure its way better than this one.

Idk that sounds more like balanced gameplay to me. Packaged survival meals and to a lesser extent, pemmican, are very good. But ymmv.

There's some things modding can't fix.

For everything else, there's... well, modding.

Who cares how Ludeon intended the game balance to be? There's no right way to play the game, whatever they may think. Pretty sure everyone realises that at some point and just mods it to the nines to get it working how they want it to be.

There's nothing to fix, chocolate is a terrible crop to grow for food even without the eating restrictions. Said restrictions only serve to make it more clear that you aren't supposed to be trying to use them as food, anything else is twice as efficient. The only reason they have a token amount of nutrition is to classify them as a food instead of a drug.

Somebody just has a mancrush on Tynan and doesn't know how to deal with it.

True, I was more addressing his general sentiment than the issue of chocolate.

I do find it interesting that Ludeon didn't make chocolate doesn't behave the way other drugs do in the game, though. Addiction/complications such as diabetes would make sense for excessive consumption.

I almost always run with VGP as I prefer the more realistic recipes, and its a real pain in the rear to try to get enough chocolate to keep the colony stocked up on cookies. By the time the hershey harvest starts, workers will run in to snatch it all up off the ground to run off somewhere and eat it.

Same thing with cheese needed for pizzas, except since that qualifies as a meal every single colonist wants to carry around 4 pieces of cheese in their inventory, even when I've restricted them from eating it.

I don't restrict the chocolate since it helps with mood. I just overgrow chocolate until I get enough left over for the cookies.

Try eating bars of chocolate every single day for breakfast, dinner and lunch instead of normal food. I guarantee you will get extreme diarrhea after just few bars of chocolate and in time you'll get diabetes.

You do realize the nutrient paste dispenser and rice already do both of those things right?
Rice takes 40 days to spoil, So it needs very little refrigeration unless you need to store a 3 day crop for multiple years, And the dispenser doesn't need an active cook nor does it give food poisoning, ever. Chocolate's use is an alternative for drugs with teetotaler colonists who won't take beer or some tea for quick recreation.

thats not true, many people eat only chocolate to lose weight, they arent allowed to eat anything else and it works for months without getting sick
