Blocks > Wood walls?
I know they're more impenetrable but are they better looking (for the colonists)?

I do not believe stone walls are any better than wood beauty wise. I think silver/gold walls are - I have never made a gold wall though, so /shrug. If thats even possible... I might be thinking of just floors.

Marble walls and jade walls also have positive beauty. +1 for marble, +10 for jade.

Some are such as marble. on a side note, I believe was smoothing has better beauty than block if you're doing some cave dwelling

Gold>Jade>Silver>Marble for beauty. All else appear to have no affect on the beauty rating.

You will want to consider durability (hit points) and flammability in your choice as well.

I usually pick a map with Marble and Granite. Granite for exterior walls, and Marble for interior.

As mentioned above, you have Gold, Jade, Silver, and Marble for beauty, but since the other three are rare, and better used for other things, I usually go with the 'plentiful' Marble for interior beauty.

That said, It get's boring seeing the same whitish colored walls everywhere, and the other blocks look nice too. I mainly just use them for certain themes, like Sandstone for a barn, Slate for.. whatever you want looking a shiny black, others for stone trails, etc.

In the end it doesn't matter a whole lot. You can up the beauty of an area with art and good quality furniture to the point where the difference isn't that noticeable.

You can add patterns of different floor/wall color/textures to improve the "samy-ness" feel. Borders of a different floor type on large rooms, runners through rooms, diamond/crosses/star shapes in the floor.

There is very limited creativity here, but there is some.

There are quite a few mods that add variety to exactly this part of RW.

I tend to pick biomes with marble and granite. Granite most walls, marble for the slight beauty it adds to bedroom walls. I THINK marble adds a +1 beauty to everything it's used in, or some such bonus.

Granite has the most HP, but some folks fail to realize that even though it's not that much more HP compared to the other stone walls, you don't use just a single layer of walls to protect your ♥♥♥♥. More layers means more HP overall, that could be the difference between getting your pawns to a wall in time to start repairing or set up an ambush, or getting there in time for a flood of raiders to come waltzing through a big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hole.

I like sandstone for its warm feel.
Its not a big issue with HP since double walls, all over simply for weather proofing.
Wooden walls can look great with some mods, however flamable which isnt bad when properly incorporated into a large base that can have fire break out in its sections, works as a method of killing off invaders too and it makes my pyro happy.

Flooring is a great go to for making it easier to look at the base, have a look at Gloomy Furniture for more options.
Then there is the extended series which provides more stuff to look at and work towards.

It's +1 beauty is all. Smoothed marble is 2 beauty, marble block walls, as well as any other stone walls smoothed are 1 beauty, and non-marble block walls are 0 beauty. There isn't much range there really.
