Not sea ice.
Pretty much everything else has its role

Diseases aside I quite love the swamps. The muddy grounds make for some creative base building and an endless supply of wood is really nice.

Tropical RF. I love the life, and the Grey leathers. And never having to take off the duster/cowboy hat combo. Having the whole colony decked out in crimson is just so satisfying... I don't LIKE the diseases but they aren't really an issue past early game.

Boreals are nice, the only cold biome I don't actively avoid (well.... tundra is okay). Temperate is great too, a nice balanced biome. I can't decide which is 2nd and which is 3rd....

Arid is my 'challenge biome. They aren't the hardest, but they aren't as boring as the hardest either.

I like for there to be STUFF on the map, make the world less boring. Deserts and ice sheets are so... blegh. And Swamps and cold bogs are a pain in the arse to build on, bridges everywhere...

Boreal Forest, it's chill, you have to plan your growings or making them indoor (which will take huge amount of power) I got tired of the "standard" one, next biome I'm gonna try probably going to be desert

ice sheet or sea ice, but i also don't like more than 4 or so pawns, so dont really need a ton of resources to support them.

I like the colder biomes. Boreal Forest is great, as it has lots of wood on the map. But Tundra is great as well. What I like about them, is you can drop the warm part of your freezer cooler into the base to save on the heaters.

Other than that... I like playing near a sea or a river. I just find those areas believable to settle near. I hate swamps though... The marshes and stuff blocking my building endavours are just ugh!!!

Yeah... I am the "it has to be symetric and tidy" type.

And the diseases with these swamps...can get quite annoying sometimes

Ice sheet - best way to learn thinking and playing in a Rimworld way and also my first map the legendary 3 min playthrough XD
Besides that, tundra, rainforest and desert/extreme desert - easy to defend and fun to play

EDIT: 3 min playthrough - that was back in Alpha 17-18 were there was no limit to how low the temperatures could go, so I got hit by a volcanic winter right after landing (maybe 2 min into the game) and when the temperatures dropped below -200C my collonists started dropping like flies.

Anything but ice sheet / sea ice. IMO, most boring way to play Rimworld, with frontloading the challenge and afterwards just not having any challenge at all once you have a self-sustained colony.

Dunno, usually just hit Random a couple of times and go with what I get. If I had to pick one I'd probably say rainforest.

Desert, arid, tundra, boreal.
Extreme ice / extreme desert is a big NO!
Tropical forest, swamp OK sometimes.
Temperate forest... Bit boring.

But. Looks like I have to begin my learning curve from 0 (temperate forest), BC I can't live on my favorite biomes with CE. Hunting is painful (dangerous + early I have to spare ammo = fkin dangerous), so first I have to learn combat mechanism on an ez biome. And looks like I have to turn permanent climate cycle off for few playthroughs...
(I'm lost my last colony 20 mins before this post.
Desert with climate cycle, volcanic winter was hit my colony. Spring: -20°C. A drop pod mecha raid destroyed one of my geothermal gens, hydroponics area was without power, 1 builder kia, 1 builder in hospital, freezer almost empty. Randy was "kind": sent a herd migration. 42 dinosaurs -idk their name. I'm sent my capable hunters out, but all got manhunter state. 1 hunter died under the herd. They broken in my damaged base, and killed almost everybody. 2 pawns survived in the back of the base in a small room. I wanted to wait till they calming down -with only 1-1 meals in their inventory. Buuuut Randy showed some mercy: infest. In THAT small room. Game over.)

Boreal forest. Started on that when I got the game early this year and still not tired of it. Arid Shrubland and Tundra are fun too, but for a tribal start the scarcity of wood makes it more challenging before you have electricity. Building the base around steam geysers can be a lifesaver for tribals in cold biomes with limited wood.

Boreal forest, it has a decent growing season and I love how the terrain looks and how it can be used to funnel enemies/slow them down. I also love pine trees and winter, so there is that as well.
Not the most challenging biome but still very fun.
