How do you check your own tech level?
I must be blind or something, i didnt even know tech levels were a thing until i read the wiki.

In vanilla there only 2 tech levels I suppose. The tribal one and the colony one, and you can't have more tech than tribal does allow you. There are also mods for a tech level, but I never used them so I do not know how they work

In vanilla the same tech exists regardless of which faction type you choose. The difference is which techs you start the game with, and how much work your pawns have to do to research new ones. This page on the wiki lists the different costs for industrial ("New Arrivals") versus tribal ("Lost Tribe") starts:

The starting techs for tribal factions are psychoid brewing, tree sowing, pemmican, passive cooler and recurve bow. Complex clothing is usually the first thing I go for, though stonecutting may be better to start if your biome doesn't have winter.

You can see it when researching a new tech. On the left is the description of the tech, then your current tech level, then the selected tech's tech level.
