All sorts of reasons...
And sleeping in the snow on caravan *without* any bed is very unproductive.
Its been so long since I played vanilla I really have no idea what's normal anymore.
Don't caravan without them. They help a lot.
Generally, except for the early game, I have more textiles than I know what to do with (sometimes more so than wood, depending on the biome), so making bedrolls for caravaning isn't such a big deal.
I agree double bedrolls are pretty niche though.
The tutorial also does not tell you that gravity keeps things on the floor.
Part of the fun of RW is finding all the little things you would never expect. You have to experiment with everything to understand what you can and cannot do and how everything works.
